Oh, the world is so much better for having had Bob in it for all these years... and we are all much better for being Friends with Bob and Inger.
Bob is a Mensch! He's a beautiful, dedicated, caring, principled friend to justice and democracy -- and to all of us.
Here is one little story -- at a dinner at Inger and Bob's home a couple of years ago, I was surveying and being amazed by the vast library of fabulous books in their living room. One US history book, which I had never seen before, caught my eye -- "Who Built America?" by the American Social History Project. Bob came over and noted that I was enjoying the book. Immediately Bob said, "Take it home with you!"
Many months later I informed Bob that I was still intending to bring his book back soon -- and he said, "Keep it!" I protested, but he was seriously giving this book to me -- and it's proudly on my library shelf today.
"Who Built America?" is a proud reminder of the importance of a living community, sincere friendship and the work we all do every day to build a better world.... a world we are building together ... while sharing our books as well as our lives.
Bob's life made all of us better people .... and we shall continue to build that America which can be ... and it shall be built -- together.
