I am one of the MANY people from the State Lab of Hygiene who were impacted by Dr. Inhorn's commitment to public health. But more than that, he was uncommonly kind. I was young and new and didn't really know what I was doing, and he made me feel welcome and important and a part of the team. Always had a smile on his face and would talk to anyone. To live well is to know that you have left the world a better place because you were in it. He did.

I met Stan 20 years ago. I had just been diagnosed with cancer and I attended a prostate cancer support group meeting that he was facilitating through the American Cancer Society. When I walked into the room (after a sleepless night and no doubt with a "deer in the headlights" look on my face) Stan came over to me, introduced himself and asked if I had been recently diagnosed. When I told him that I had been diagnosed the previous afternoon he put his hand on my shoulder, looked at me and with that calm, soothing voice said "Take a deep breath, Randy. You're going to get through this." That was when I first realized that I could and decided that I would beat prostate cancer. I recently celebrated my 20th year of being cancer-free. Thank you, Stan. Rest in peace, my friend. Rest in peace.
