April 9, 1963 - August 11, 2025
Lori Byrd, 62, of Madison, SD, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at Avera McKennan Hospital on August 11, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones.
Lori Beth Grimm was born April 9, 1963, in DeSmet, South Dakota, to Virgil and Dorothy Grimm, Lori grew up in Madison, South Dakota, and graduated from Madison High School in 1981. She married the love of her life, Pat Byrd, on June 25, 1988, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Lori will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She had a gift for making everyone feel cared for and included. Family was at the center of her world and she never missed a gathering, whether with her own side or Pat's; and would drop everything to help someone in need. Lori was funny, full of life, and the often the spark that kept everyone laughing. She especially cherished her visits to Washington to see her daughters, and nothing brought her greater joy than being "Grandma" to Miles and Reid. They were the light of her life, and she poured her heart into every moment with them and everyone in her family; leaving a spirit that will live on in all of those who were lucky enough to know her.
She is survived by her husband, Pat; daughters, Casey Byrd and Abby (Ryan) Schlesser; and grandsons Miles and Reid Schlesser. Her siblings and siblings-in-law; Pam (Mark) Ullom, Tim Grimm, and Greg (Deb) Grimm, Ron (Nancy) Byrd, Mary Seiler, and Rick Byrd. She is also survived by many cousins; nieces; nephews and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Dorothy Grimm; and her father and mother-in-law, Maurice and Bonnie Byrd; her sister-in-law Dawn Byrd; and her brother-in-law Mike Seiler.
A celebration of Lori's life was held Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison, SD. Inurnment was immediately following the service at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Madison, SD. A time of gathering was held at the Madison Country Club following the committal.
