Beverly Pitts Obituary

Beverly Diane (Miller) Pitts, 77, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 2:50 pm, Sunday, August 17, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania to Aldie Roy and Mary Emma (Buckley) Miller. Bev was raised in Sharon but had country and farm life in her genes. She spent many weekends at the Buckley family farm in Grove City with aunts, uncles, and cousins who she loved dearly. Beverly attended Lafayette Elementary School, a stone's throw from her parents' Bell Street home, and graduated from Sharon High School Class of 1966. She went on to work at Donnelly's grocery store and later joined the Over 21 Club, where she met her husband and lifelong friends. Bev married John Charles Pitts at First Presbyterian Church in Sharon on June 30th, 1973, and they spent more than 52 wonderful years together. They raised their two daughters, Rev. Stacie (Mark) Maynard, of Stuthers, OH, and Gretchen (Tony) Darcangelo, of Sharon, who all survive her. She loved her sons-in-law as sons. She was the type of mother who never missed an event, and always encouraged her children to try everything. While her daughters were young, Bev spent many years serving as the Leader of the Girl Scout Troops in Sharon. A devoted homemaker, Bev also served as a caretaker to many others through the years. Bev was Presbyterian her whole life: raised at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon; she was later a member of First Presbyterian Church Sharon for more than 30 years - where she served as a Deacon and an Elder; and for the last 20 years, belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville where she was active in Just Older Youth (JOY). Bev was an avid reader of romance novels. In later years, she also enjoyed word searches. She was a member of bowling leagues before having children and again after they went to college. She liked movies, yellow roses, fresh peach pie, the beauty of nature, the color green, and most of all spending time with her family. She especially loved celebrating holidays and birthdays. In addition to her husband and children, Bev is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Judy Andrews, Sandy Chapman, and Karen Pitts; as well as many nieces, nephews, special cousins, and her lifelong friends. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Miller; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Moyer; four brothers-in-law, Philip Pitts, Robert Andrews, Thom Chapman, and Robert Moyer; as well as her dog, Sharlet. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville, 603 W. Ridge Avenue, P.O. Box 125, Sharpsville, PA 16150; or to an animal advocacy charity of the donor's choice. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday (8-21-25) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Carlin, officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.

So many memories of the past. I'm so sad to hear of Beverly's death. John, girls and family, I send love and pray for God's peace. I was blessed to have known Beverly many years ago. I'm now living in Colorado, but I remember well our many chats.

I am Bev´s cousin, Sue. I was born November 2, 1947 and the two of us were good friends. Bev, her brother Bob, myself and my sister Bonnie used to spend a lot of time together on Grandma and Grandpa Milers porch swing!
