John Del Bene Obituary

John Del Bene Jr., 85, of Girard, affectionately known to friends and family as "Harpo" passed away on September 7, 2024, at Liberty HealthCare.

He was born on July 22, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son to John and Jenny (Rich) Del Bene Sr.

Harpo proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

A firefighter for Girard City, John devoted many years of his life to serving his community, retiring from the Girard Sewage Plant, where he continued his commitment to public service. He loved spending time at the lake house, relishing the warmth of summer days. His passions included golf, bowling, and playing cards, often enjoying the thrill of casinos with friends. These interests brought him happiness and laughter, filling his life with cherished moments and friendships.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rose Marie Del Bene, his daughter, Jennifer Ziegler of Girard, alongside his stepdaughters Nicole (Jason) Cole and Michelle Surak, his son-in-law, Craig Rose, and took great joy in being a grandfather to Bob Caldwell and Allison (Jonathan) Baker, and great grandchild, Addison Caldwell.Though Harpo will be deeply missed, he is reunited in peace with his loving daughter, Jackie Rose, and his sisters, Laureen Marsico and Betty Hura, who have preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held on September 12th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial following at St. Rose Church in Girard. Harpo will be laid to rest at Niles Union Cemetery.
