Lucille Wick Obituary
Lucille A. Wick, 89, of Rome, NY and formerly of Pompano Beach, FL and Taberg, NY, passed away on September 17, 2024. Several warm-hearted family members visited Lucille's bedside during her last hours. Her loving grandniece Erin Rivers, affectionately called "Missy Blue Eyes" by Aunt Cille, was at her side when she passed. Lucille has been blessed with a long, happy and healthy life with a loving family and friends. Lucille was born on August 10, 1935, the youngest daughter of Joseph H. and Kathryn Sullivan Houston.
She graduated from Camden High School in 1952 and later went to work at Revere Copper and Brass, Rome, NY, as a Telephone Operator for 15 years. On December 29, 1973, she married William O. Wick at St. Joseph's Church in Oneida, NY. Lucille then took over the bookkeeping and accounting for their blacksmith business. Bill and Lucille traveled seasonally between Vernon, NY and Pompano Beach, FL, where Bill was a blacksmith shoeing harness horses racing in each location. They enjoyed many happy years together and especially loved their cruises through the Panama Canal.
Lucille is survived by a large family including a stepdaughter Susan (Richard) White FL; 2 step granddaughters Michele and Kym Throm FL; 3 nephews - James (Deborah) Spring Hill, FL; David (Missy) Surfside Beach, SC; William (Rose) Taberg, NY; 2 nieces, Anne (Denis) Hartman Westmoreland, NY; Kate (Kenneth) Duell Taberg, NY. She is also survived by 3 niece-in-laws Joan Boardman, Taberg, NY; Joanne Boardman Rome, NY; and Louanne Densmore Taberg, NY; along with 22 grand and 37 great-grand nieces and nephews. Lucille loved her many friends including those from Taberg, Rome, Vernon, Pompano Beach, and the Plymouth, WI area and throughout the Harness Horse Racing World. She kept them close to her heart always. Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband Bill in 2015; her stepson Denis Wick; her sister Evelyn Houston; her sister and brother in-law A. Frances and Alfred Boardman; nephews Alfred, Joseph, and John Boardman, niece-in-law Brenda Boardman; grandnieces/nephews Matilda, Alfred III Boardman and great-grandnephew Evan Boardman-Dow.
Calling hours will be held at the Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals, 210 W. Court Street, Rome on Friday, September 27th at 11am. A prayer service at the funeral home will begin at noon and burial will follow at approximately 1pm at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Taberg, NY.
Lucille's family greatly appreciates the excellent care and friendship she found as a resident of the Rome Hospital Residential Health Care Facility (RHCF). Lucille especially enjoyed the variety of activities and outings offered there to make life more enjoyable for RHCF residents. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the RHCF. Checks should be made payable to "Rome Health Foundation" and include the memo "Activities Department – Lucille Wick". Mail checks to Rome Hospital RHCF, 3rd Floor, Activities Department, 1500 N.
