Richard Lee “Dick” Stahl, 76 passed away on June 20, 2024, at home in the loving presence of his wife Linda.
Dick was born on June 27, 1947, in Cortland, Ohio the son of Lawrence and Helen Pease Stahl.
A 1965 graduate of Lakeview High School, Dick continued his education at Kent State University graduating on June 6, 1970, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While in high school Dick became an amateur radio operator, a hobby enjoyed.
Dick possessed a strong work ethic having worked at Van Huffle Tube upon graduating from high school. After receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering, he worked for Republic Steel for three years before beginning a 36-year career with General Motors, retiring in August 2009.
Dick joined the Cortland Fire Department on January 11, 1968, working his way up through the ranks. On January 5, 1989, he was promoted to Fire Chief, serving the Cortland Fire Department for 33 years.
While at the Cortland Fire Department he met his wife Linda who worked at the telephone office next door. They were married at August 29, 1970, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 29, 2020.
A man of faith Dick converted to Catholicism at St. Robert’s Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, church council, eucharistic minister and safety committee.
Dick is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Theresa and son Stephen (Shirley) of Aurora. Six grandchildren Joshua, Ashley, Zachary, Kaitlin, Amanda, and Ryan and one great grandson Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his sister Julie.
Visitation will be held at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High Street, Cortland on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM followed by a prayer service at 4:00 PM. Online condolences can be made at www.lanefuneralhomes.com.
A private burial will be held at All Souls Cemetery.
