James Flathers Obituary

James L. Flathers Sr.

The funeral service for James Lee Flathers Sr. will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12th at Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Flathers, 91, of Shady Cove, died Friday, May 5, 2006. He was born March 29, 1915 in Tropico, Calif.

On Aug. 21, 1962 in Carson City, Nev. he married Alberta Shipley, who survives. He had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1970, moving here from Pasadena, Calif., where he was a conductor on the Southern Pacific Railroad for 36 years and in Oregon he was a custodian for the Medford School Dist. for approximately five years.

He and his wife managed Royal Mobile Estates for 10 years. They were also camp hosts for Oregon and Wash. State Parks for 13 years.

Mr. Flathers was a member of Calvary (Assembly of God) Church in Jacksonville where he and his wife started Calvary Kiddy Korner daycare and he built furniture and toys for it. He enjoyed woodworking and made 13 "Heritage" rocking horses for his grandchildren.

He enjoyed visiting the elderly and ill at the nursing homes.

Survivors include: his wife, Alberta, of Shady Cove; a son, Jim Flathers Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.; two step-children, William Shipley, Phoenix, Ore.; Deanna Durham-Larkin, Shady Cove; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Another very special man has gone home to Heaven. I am so glad that Jim and Alberta were a part of my daughter's lives at Kiddy Korner. May God comfort you Alberta.
