Darlene Cormier Obituary

Darlene T. Cormier
1951 - 2015
PITTSFIELD - Darlene T. Cormier, 64, died peacefully after a period of failing health on Sept. 8, 2015, in Portland. Darlene was born on May 18, 1951 in East Haven, Conn., the daughter of the late Theodore and Martha (Hubbard) Oberdick, Sr.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and an incredibly strong, generous, and selfless woman with a "heart of gold." She ardently loved her family and friends, Jesus, and her Catholic faith. Loved ones also remember her as an amazing cook and an extremely hard-working and humble woman. Others remember her as warm, welcoming, and a very beautiful woman with a keen sense of humor.
A convert to the Catholic faith, she had a true heart for service. She first served at a soup kitchen in Lynn, Mass. with her husband, Ron. After moving to Maine in the 1980's, she founded and served for many years as Director and Head Chef of "My Brother's Table" Soup Kitchen, an ecumenical ministry based out of St. Agnes Parish. She also served on St. Agnes' Parish Council, Women's Council, as a crisis pregnancy counselor, a CCD teacher, and coordinator of food and clothing drives.
She was a devoted wife and partner to her husband, Ron, and over the years, ran restaurants with him, worked as a chef, and lovingly prepared all of the culinary delights they sold in their Pittsfield-based business, Country Pies. She also worked as a homecare nurse for a number of years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Cormier of Pittsfield; daughter, Rebecca Cormier Ruiz and husband, Rex, of Oakton, Va., son, Uriel Cormier and wife, Nichole Temple, of Brewer; her grandchildren, Rafael Ruiz, Gabriel Ruiz, Victoria Cormier and Gabriel Cormier; brother, Theodore "Teddy" Oberdick and wife, Lorrie, of Conn., sister, Cheryl Oberdick Martone of Connecticut, sister-in-law, Bonnie Oberdick of Connecticut; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, David Oberdick, and her twin brother, Alton Oberdick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 238 Detroit Street, Pittsfield. A committal will immediately follow at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
