David Bourque Obituary

David V. Bourque
1934 - 2017
WATERVILLE - David Vincent Bourque, 82, formerly of Winslow and New Jersey, died on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Lakewood Continuing Care, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Waterville on Aug. 15, 1934, the son of Arthur and Germaine (Pilon) Bourque. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine and his master's from Montclair State University.
David served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1952 to August 1956 as a radio operator, and was discharged with the rank of A/1C. His time in the Air Force started him on a lifelong hobby as an amateur ham radio operator with the call sign WA2ZYX. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and living in "The Garden State." He loved gardening and produced an amazing amount of Jersey tomatoes.
The vicissitudes of life brought him the good fortune of his wife, Joan Plourde, and five beautiful children. His career in education was in New Jersey, so David and Joan raised their children there. He also had the opportunity to teach as an assistant professor in accounting and legal studies at Middlesex County College in Edison, N.J. After retirement, he returned to his beloved Maine and Waterville. David was proud of being from Maine and his French Acadian heritage, and enjoyed researching the family tree.
David is survived by his three daughters, Catherine Caruso and her husband John, of New Jersey; Andrea Bartholomew and her husband Paul, of Pennsylvania; Rachel Lawrence and her two sons, William Neuhaus and Ian Neuhaus, of Pennsylvania; his brother, James Bourque, and his wife Joan, of Waterville; his very special friend, Connie Bechard, of Waterville; as well as three nieces and two nephews.
David was predeceased by his son, Daniel Bourque, in 1976; his son, John Bourque, in 2001; his wife, Joan, in 2004; his granddaughter, Amelia Lawrence, in 2015; as well as two infant sisters.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday July 25, 2017, from 4-6 p.m. at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 26, at 9 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 110 Silver St., Waterville, with a reception following in the church hall. Burial will be at noon at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta. I remember when we were young, Uncle David gave my sisters and me many 45's with popular songs. I listened to them countless times. We would dance and sing. It brought joy to my life. The wood skis he left for us, I had no clue what to do with them at that time. He was a kind and gentle man. I will miss him as part of our family in Maine. Cindy Bourque Simonds
