Phillip Hodgkins Obituary

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Phillip E. Hodgkins, 72, of Second Avenue, formerly of Gardiner, Maine, died May 24, 2009, at Miriam Hospital in Providence.

He was born on Dec. 29,1936, in Jefferson, Maine, to the late Oscar Simmons and Edith Hodgkins.

He was survived by six sons, Phillip Hodgkins, of West Gardner, Maine, John Hodgkins, of Indiana, Dennis Lauzon, of Woonsocket, Peter Lauzon, of Dublin, N.H., Mark Lauzon, of Leeds, Maine, and Michael Lauzon, of Woonsocket; three daughters, Bethany Lauzon, of Milford, Mass., Phyllis Call, of Hallowell, Maine, and Donna Lauzon, of Oakland, Calif. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one uncle and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Lauzon.

Mr. Hodgkins served proudly in the Air Force.

Phillip was a member of the AARP and was a past president of the Parkview Senior Club, where he was honored as the Senior of the Year. Phillip was a van driver for the Woonsocket Senior Center. Previously in Maine, he worked at Gardiner Shoe Shop, Veterans Affairs at Togus and Walker Lumber; drove a bus for School Administrative District 11; and also drove a truck for Williams Construction.

His funeral will be from 2 to 5 p.m., with a service to begin at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 7, in the T. Lauzon Funeral Home, 185 Spring St., Woonsocket; (401) 769-2537. Relatives and friends are invited.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Lung Association of Rhode Island, 298 West Exchange St., Providence, RI 02904.
