He was born on Nov. 19, 1936, in Brooks, the son of Walter and Essie (Webber) Roberts.
He was a 1955 graduate of Morse Memorial High School in Brooks, and then served in the Air Force. Blondie retired from Cianbro Corporation in December 1998 after 36 years of employment.
He was very much loved and respected by the many men and women that he met, worked with and mentored during those years. He was an avid hunter and ice fisherman, enjoyed ATVing, raising chickens and pheasants, and working in his garden.
He served on the shoreline zoning planning board for the town of Orient for several years, and will be fondly remembered by his neighbors and friends on MacAllister Cove who attended the annual Labor Day Lobster feed hosted at his home.
There are many who will attest to the fact that he made the best apple pie and blueberry muffins around.
Sherman is survived by his loving companion, Barbara Sharpe, of Orient; a brother, Linwood Roberts, of Auburn; two sisters, Joan Splittorff, of Auburn, and Laurene Wright, of Nokomis, Fla.; Terry Sprague, of Morrill, whom he loved and thought of a his son, and Terry's three children; several nieces and nephews; and of course Sherman's faithful springer spaniel, Mariah.
Sherman was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Keith and Neil.
Graveside services will be announced at a later date. Donations in his honor may be made online to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at www.michaeljfox.org or to a charity of your choice.
