Dianne LeConte Obituary

Dianne E. (King) LeConte, 78
WESTBROOK -- Dianne passed away peacefully after a battle with pancreatic cancer on Jan. 14, 2013. She was born in Portland on March 28, 1934, to Forrest and Mildred (Doucette) King. Dianne grew up in Westbrook (with a brief stay in Portland during WWII), and went to local schools, graduating from Westbrook High in 1952, where she played basketball, and was involved in many other school activities. She led a very active, colorful, and caring life.
A voracious reader all her life, she also sang on The Ken McKenzie show at a young age, was a rainbow girl, worked briefly as an operator for the local telephone company, raised a family, worked for the City of Westbrook as a reference and assistant librarian at the Walker Memorial Library for 40 plus years, and was deeply involved with all things in Westbrook, from the Historical Society, to it's history, (Col. Thomas Westbrook's archeological dig and sub-sequent book) to co-writing and publishing a young people's book, and writing editorials espousing her opinions (some with tongue in cheek) on current events and politics.
She was also fond playing Yahtzee with the girls, traveling, playing slot machines, hosting Sunday brunches, and involved in her children and grandchildren's activities.
She was married to her husband Paul E. LeConte and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26.
Dianne was predeceased by her parents; a brother Larry; a nephew George; and a dear daughter Lori. Surviving her are husband Paul; son Michael (Beverly) of Westbrook, daughters, Toby of Boothbay and Lisa LeConte (John) Mazziotti of Westbrook; sisters, Beverly (Murray) Fletcher of Gorham and Kathy King of Westbrook; grandchildren, Sean LeConte and Christopher (Ashley) LeConte, William, Ronda, and Brenda LeConte, Nicole Finlay, Derek Hawkes and his father, son-in- law Joel Hawkes; niece Krista Canales, nephew Jeremy Alexander; and many other family and dear friends including 'the Girls with the Grandmother Faces,' and life- long friend Debbie Bird.
Our family would like to thank the neighbors and all the people who helped care for Dianne during her illness especially Cindy Highan with Hospice of Southern Maine.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m., at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Online condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com .

Paul, Beverly, and Kathy and family.
I was shocked today when my brother Dick called to tell me of Dianne's passing. She always made me feel welcome whenever I went home to Maine to visit. So glad we got together when my dad went to Maine the last few years. Keep this thought in mind."When the one you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes as treasure."

I am so sorry for your loss Paul. Dianne was significant in my fond library memories as a child. She interviewed me as a freshman in high school for the student library aid position I had and worked with me on a required cataloging project that I had for my Library Science degree. I will be eternally grateful for the infuence she had on the development of my eventual library career.
