Erle Webber Obituary

Erle Cameron
Webber Jr., 59
BOSTON, Mass. -- Erle Cameron Webber Jr. lost his battle with the disease of addiction on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, with family by his side.
Erle was born in Portland on Jan. 4, 1951, the eldest son of Erle C. and Dorothy H. (Hartwell) Webber. He attended Cumberland schools, becoming a star athlete in basketball and baseball. While in high school, Erle earned his Eagle Scout award, the highest award a Boy Scout can earn. Also, he won the paper boy of the year award sponsored by the Portland Press Herald. Erle attended Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., where he earned his B.S. degree in Pharmacy. His employment included working at the family owned Falmouth Pharmacy, and later working for Chartwell Health Care in Boston, Mass.
Erle had many interests. He enjoyed all types of sports, including skiing, biking, golf and racquetball. He was a diverse and avid reader with a keen interest in a good fiction novel of courtroom drama.
Erle had very dear friends, old and new, with whom he shared many good times. He loved his family and spent holidays and other occasions enjoying visits. With an interesting sense of humor, he enjoyed making people laugh- which he did. He was a smart, handsome, charming man whom people felt drawn to. When he looked you in the eye and said: 'I love you,' you knew he meant it.
He is survived by his favorite sister, Gayle W. Yost, brothers Mark H. Webber and wife Dina, David A. Webber and wife Lorie; aunts and uncles; cousins; seven nieces and two nephews.
On Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, there will be a funeral service at the Cumberland Congregational Church located in Cumberland Center, from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by a luncheon in the Parish Hall. On Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, from 10 to 11 a.m., there will be a gathering of friends and family in the Old South Cafe (Chapel), at the Old South Church located at 645 Boylston St. in Boston, Mass., followed by the Festival Worship Service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Dear Family and Friends, Erle was my roommate while I attended Northeastern. We had many good times and I enjoyed hearing him play his guitar. He accompanied me when I traveled , in by "bug", to Jackson Hole,WY for a nurse work study program. He was great company in a blizzard in Rawlins, WY. Jean and I stayed with him in CA on our way to Hawaii. We were glad to have him visit us in Wyoming, Hawaii and Maine. His smile was warm and loving. His personality fun and he could have sold me anything. Plus, he was so handsome. I remember telllng him when he was visiting us in Bangor that he was Gifted and Talented and he smiled. I was taking a class about gifted and talented at the time at U of ME. We pray that he and you know how much we loved him. We had invited him to come out to Montana many times.
Gayle, we mailed you and your family a card before we saw the address on the computer. Erle always spoke of the fun times he had on July 4th and other holidays. You're in our prayers. May you feel God's arms around you. Love, Jerry and Jean Ambrose

My condolences to Erle's brothers and sister and to their families. Erle and I were roommates in college and for a short time in California. He was a very unique individual. I lost touch with him after he moved back to Boston.
