PORTLAND -- James Ralph Nappi Sr., 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, uncle and friend died surrounded by family on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Residence following a brief illness.
He was born in Portland on Aug. 10, 1924, the son of Benedetto and Camella Macri Nappi. A lifelong resident of the city, he attended Portland High School. During WW-II he worked in the South Portland Shipyard. In 1946 he married the love of his life Katherine Elizabeth Googins and together they raised three sons.
He was a hard worker who worked a variety of careers throughout his lifetime including a fisherman and construction worker. He later worked for the City of Portland in the Forestry Division for the Parks Department where he retired as a supervisor in 1986.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed walking, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Katherine who died in 2010; brothers, Severino and Joseph Nappi, and a sister, Mary Nappi Martin. He leaves three sons, James and his wife Joanne of Scarborough, Robert and his wife Linda of Portland, Peter and his wife Pam of South Portland; a brother, Ralph Nappi and his wife Gloria of Portland; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at 9 a.m., at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Federal Street, Portland.
