Richard Levesque Obituary

Richard A. Levesque, 75
SANFORD AND SPRINGVALE
- Richard A. Levesque, 75, a lifelong resident of Sanford and Springvale, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, due to complications following a surgery. He was born in Sanford on Nov. 2, 1940, the son of the late Alfred (Freddy) and Geraldine (Bodwell) Levesque. Dick was a graduate of Sanford High School and later joined the Naval Forces. He served in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After serving our country, he worked for the Sanford Fire Department for 38 years. Dick was a member of the Pine Tree Burn Foundation and played a major role in the Juvenile Fire Setter Program. He led in the construction of the first Fire Prevention Trailer, in York County, which led to neighboring departments building their own. At least seven documented lives were saved, due to his teaching. He was also a Charter Member and served various positions within the I.A.F.F. Local 1624.
Throughout his career, he received many certificates and awards. Aside from his career with the Sanford Fire Department, he was also co-owner of R & R Paving for 30 years. After retiring, he donated his time to helping Veterans.
Dick enjoyed coaching Boys Youth Hockey, Little League Baseball, SSYAA, Girls Basketball and the Local 1624 Softball Team.
His survivors include his wife, Patricia (Chick); two children, Todd Levesque (Jen Roberts) of Springvale and Bonnie Wallace (Andrew) of Sanford, two stepchildren, Wanda Richard (Brian) of Springvale and Matt O'Neil (Anne) of South Berwick; two sisters, Patricia Morin (Patrick Roland) of Sun City, Ariz., Shirley Demers (Dave) of Sanford; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Geraldine; his brothers, Robert and Ronald, and his sisters, Joanne Gray, Linda France and Jacqueline Demers.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
