Timothy Stewart Obituary

.
    Timothy P. Stewart, 40
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - Timothy P. Stewart, 40, passed away unexpectedly during the morning hours of Feb. 20, 2008.
All who survive him will mourn his passing, for even those who met him only briefly were touched by the goodness of this man. His zest for life, his sense of humor, his generosity, and decency to others left their indelible mark on even the most casual of acquaintances.
A veteran of the first Gulf-War, he proudly served his country in the US Navy for over 20 years, retiring in 2006 as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
He was a lifetime member and current commander of the American Legion, Mohawk Post-1450 in Halfmoon. He was also an active member of the Shenendehowa Rotary. Tim was employed as the Director of Business Development for the DR Group in Albany, N.Y.
In sports, as in life, you always knew where Tim stood. He was an avid sports fan and very successful Little League coach. Tim also enjoyed playing golf with friends, although sometimes his brother's questions Tim's math skills. A passionate supporter of Red Sox and Patriots, even after the Super Bowl XLII.
The son the late Robert Stewart and Edna Dubail Stewart, he is survived by his wife Nerieda Ortiz Stewart; his son Zachary; his sister Mary Partridge, bothers, Robert, Edward, James and Randy Stewart; grandmother Ilene Dubail; and eleven nieces and nephews. The world will be a lesser place with his passing.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park, N.Y. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Route 9 Clifton Park. Burial with full military honors will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Timmy,
I can't believe a year of heartache has passed. We hope we make you proud as we carry on the best we can. I dream of you everyday and know if you could be with us...you would be. I feel so blessed to be your wife and I miss you so very much. I love you...

Hello, Nereida and Zachary....

Timmy was one of my best friends in high school. I remember vividly the days we worked together at Shaw's Supermarket in Windham during our senior year, along with hanging out with each other virtually every weekend.
We also played on the same Little League team, the Seals, from 1975-1979. We even won a championship together during the 1977 season. Timmy's Dad, Bob, was our assistant coach. He also was a wonderful person.
I will always cherish Timmy's friendship. He was absolutely hilarious! Now matter how much you were down, he could make you laugh histerically.
To top it all off, Timmy was one of the ushers at my wedding. If you could please send me your address, I will send you a picture of Timmy during the wedding. We were both very young and it shows!
Timmy was quite a politician also! We shared the same political views, and in high school he talked frequently about possibly running for the position of State Representative.

Edna, my heart goes out to you and your family as you mourn the loss of your son and brother. That Tim was loved and respected by everyone with whom he came in contact is not a surprise. He was a great school citizen whose friendly, caring personality endeared him to classmates and to his teachers. Just recently, I was looking through the 1985 Windonian with one of my sons, and I paused to read Tim's senior sayings. I smiled when I read that he was noted for being involved in politics, wondering what path he had taken since the military experience......and if I could still look forward to him becoming the Governor of Maine. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his death a few days later. I pray that you all can be comforted by the memories that you share, and by the bonds of love in your family. May God be with all of you.

My husband & I just read of Timmy's passing in the local newspaper this week. What a traumatic loss for this family and for all the lives he has touched. Timmy and I lived in the same neighborhood growing up and he and my husband and I all graduated together. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss Edna. May you find peace in each and every passing day and the grandson that Timmy gave to you.

We were very sad to hear of Tim's passing. Our hearts ache for your family at this difficult time. After the tragic passing of Greg's brother, Doug, in May at the age of 44 we understand all too well how heart wrenching this loss is to your family. As you grieve for the loss of Tim, remember all of the fond words people have said and written about him. It will help to comfort you in your time of sorrow. I can't express enough how important it is to comfort, support and cherish each other now and for always. Don't let another day go by without letting the ones you love know how important they are to you. It is evident that Tim lived a very vibrant life and that he extended that spirit to his family, friends and all who knew him. He would be honored to know that he has touched your lives so profoundly. As you celebrate all of Tim’s distinguished qualities, embrace them and pass them forward in honor of his remarkable life.
You are in our prayers.

Loosing Tim is like loosing my Twin Brother. Tim and I were like the dynamic duo growing up together. We helped each other through tough times. My house was a quiet sanctuary for him and his house was a fun house for me. Each of Our families adopted us and were never surprised to see an extra kid at the table. Tim, of course, was the leader and planner of all the games. I was always eager to support his ideas and grateful to be included. He always made sure the neighborhood boys included me in flag football. The funniest story I can remember is (OK I'm not a good story teller either--That's Tim's Strenght-As you know he could make any incident sound like the most hysterical event ever) Anyway, one night we proudly served the supper we made, we were is sixth grade, and as everyone started eating the green beans they got this weird/horrified/confused look on their faces. They were trying not to make us feel bad in our proud moment, but the green beans were now green straws more suited for drinking or launching projectiles than anything else. Soon our supper turned into a carnival-I'll let you fill in the rest. The song that most reminds me of Tim is "Lean On Me", because he was always there for me and I leaned on him often during high school. Tim's sparkle and love of friends, family, country and life has lifted many and the best way to thank him for that is to think of him and sparkle when times are tough or someone else needs a little glow in there life. --You can also cheer for Pats, Sox and donate to your fav. charity.-- I love Ya Tim--

I also had the pleasure of knowing Tim. I first met Tim when I joined the American Legion. With my son heading into the Navy last year, Tim was always the first to offer his support, words of wisdom and patriotic passion. As Vice President of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, I had the opportunity to present Tim and the American Legion their membership certificate in front of a large group. He so graciously accepted the certificate speaking of how important veterans are to all of us and that they deserve all of our utmost respect. He also spoke of the importance of the Legion being a part of our community. We were all lucky to have him as our Commander and friend. I will always remember his smile and sincere words. God Bless

I have had the pleasure of being a member of Post 1450 while Tim was our Commander. I applaud his energy, his dedication and his misguided devotion to the triple A team that plays baseball in Boston. His ability during the Army-Navy game to rally (Coerce) the Navy supporters to donate to the food bank and outraise the Army contingent was a spectacle in itself. I am honored to have know him and will always fondly remember him in his devoted role as Post Commander.

My love prayers go out to you Neriea and Zachary. I am a cousin to your mom Edna,I live in Rhode Island. I was deeply grieved to hear about Timmy's passing at such a young age. Know I will keep you all in my prayers for the Lord to give you strength for the days ahead. I was given this prayer when my husband passed away at a young age also and wanted to share it with you."The Broken Chain" We little new that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly,in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you,you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, The Chain will link again..

For those who could not attend the wake

Zach spoke these kind words about his dad:
___________________________________

When I hear my father’s name Tim Stewart I few things come to mind.
Well a little more than few, actually Friday when my Uncle Eddy took me out to breakfast I had a million stories with my dad that all involved pancakes in some way or another.

One thing that I always remember about my dad is patriotism. All he ever had was extreme pride for his country. He loved to share that pride with other people. I think that is why he liked the legion so much.

I remember how much love he had for my mom and how much love he will always have for her. Even when he was mad or upset at my mother and her little “quirks” he always had that little twinkle in his eye and the smile on his face when she entered the room.

I will never forget his loyalty. He never lost faith in anything and never gave up. He was a fan of the red socks for 37 years before they won another world series and continued being a fan. He was a fan of the Patriots even after this years little incident. We won’t talk about that.

I will always remember the importance of his family. Even though they were miles apart that brotherly (and sisterly!) bond was still very strong. He would talk to them on the phone and email them constantly. He loved all his family even though they had a couple of “interesting characteristics”. It was so strong he passed it on to Me. I cannot count how many minutes I have spent on my little cousin James. I’m pretty sure we are the only people keeping Verizon in business.

He was such a devoted father too and was so very proud of me no matter what I did. Even If I failed he would come and pick me up with a surprised look on his face saying “Wow you tried that!”

Dad loved to help people and the community. He was involved in the legion and rotary which are groups that help so many people.

As I look at the sad faces and tear stained clothes just remember that we all became better and stronger people solely by knowing him.

There have been very few people in my life who have had such a big impact on me in such a short period. Tim’s enthusiastic, excited and optimistic outlook on life was contagious. Tim’s beliefs and actions are proof that one person can make a positive difference in the lives of so many others. Tim, like so many others that had the privilege of crossing your short path in life, I will be forever grateful for all you have done.

I had the pleasure of working with Tim for about 18 months. Despite his misguided devotion to the Red Sox and Patriots, Tim quickly became one of "us". Tim often shared with us bits of the wisdom he learned in the Navy. My favorite was "Ship, Shipmates, Self". Those were the order of his priorities. I can say wholeheartedly our ship is not the same without Tim.
