Leon Karr Obituary

Leon M. Karr age 88 of Mount Laurel, N.J. formerly of the Main Line, died Friday March 5, 2010 at his daughters' home. Mr. Karr was born Feb. 21, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Leo and Mary Agnes (nee Stack) Karr. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Karr retired in 1968 as a Lieutenant with the Philadelphia Fire Dept. He also was the Superintendent of Fire for the Township of Lower Merion, Pa. from 1968 to 1982 and most recently Senior Operations Manager for Atlantic Financial Federal, retiring in 1990. Mr. Karr was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2819 in Philadelphia, Commander of District No.#1 of Pennsylvania V.F.W. from 1967-1968, member of the International Assoc. of Fire Chiefs from 1972-1982 and a volunteer at the Wayne Senior Center in Wayne, Pa. Mr. Karr was preceded in death by his first wife Alice (nee Hepsoe) and his second wife Mary (nee Selfridge) and sons Leon Karr and David Wolk. He is survived by children, Thomas Karr, Joan Mueller, Robert Karr, Kathryn Strang, Frances Cannon and John and Joseph Wolk. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer, Leslie, Ryan, Stephen, Alexandra, Matthew, Andrew, Christopher, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Garrett and a great-granddaughter, Kira. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2010 at Saint Matthias Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd, Pa. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Pa. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wayne Senior Center, 108 Station Road, Wayne, PA. 19087. Arrangements by Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, Mount Laurel, N.J.
