Barbara Alexander Obituary

Barbara Alexander

1948 - 2013 LONDONDERRY Memorial services for Barbara Alexander, 64, of Londonderry, who died of cancer on Feb. 20, 2013, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Second Congregational Church on Main Street (RT 11), in Londonderry with a reception to follow at Jake's Restaurant and Tavern on RT 100.

Barbara was born on Aug. 26, 1948, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Edward and Bernice Weibley.

On May 6, 1967, she wed Ray Howard Alexander of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and on August 22 of the same year, they became proud parents to daughter Nicole. Soon after, son Scott was born on Jan. 22, 1969. They moved to a farmhouse in York Springs, Pa., where Barbara enjoyed years of riding and raising horses, until the family moved to Londonderry in 1979.

Barbara embraced the seasonal Vermont lifestyle and community, serving so many years on the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad; she was honored with a rare lifetime membership. She enjoyed many wonderful years teaching beginners to ski at Bromley Mountain and working at some of the areas finest restaurants, including the Chantecleer in Manchester (she also helped to launch and build Jake's as one of Londonderry's only family dining establishments).

Barbara was always a loving caregiver, moving to North Carolina for two years to be with her own declining mother, before coming back to Londonderry and working for the last two decades as a provider of At-Home health care for the area elderly.

Barbara's greatest enjoyment in life was her family, including family pets. She also enjoyed friends, gardening, reading and many of life's pleasures. Barbara will be missed greatly and remembered fondly. She touched many people with warmth, generosity and kindness.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Nikki, and grandson, Owen Alexander of Londonderry, to whom she was a best friend and very imaginative playmate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray (2/9/83) and son Scott (5/31/11).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad, 6068 Route 100, Londonderry, VT 05148, or Grace Cottage Foundation, PO Box 1, Townshend, VT 05353.

The family of Barbara wishes to thank the Brattleboro Bayada Hospice team, Grace Cottage Hospital, the LVRS, and all the friends, family and community members who have offered support and sympathy.
