Haing sold John and Shirleys home on US31, on my way home each day when I pass by the home, I am reminded of them every day....also I remember when cleaning out their home, John asked me if I run accross one of the class A army uniform buttons to save it for him as he lost one from his uniform. I gave him one of my extras that I had when I was a commissioned officer, as I had some extras....he was most appreciative...I felt great that I was able to help him....he and Shirley were super great persons!

John and Shirley were great neighbors and lovely people. Sincerely kind, humble, and filled with wisdom. We enjoyed visiting with them both. I remember when we first moved to Manistee and realized we were going to be living next door to the only other Gould in town, at that time. Seeing an Englishman and Scot next to one another and discussing ancestry was fun and entertaining. John's service to our country and his passion for any service men and women were quite admirable. Steve and John bantered back and forth over Michigan State and Iowa Hawkeyes. They would call each other during games. One big game, Steve paraded in their front yard with his Hawkeye flag noting a big win and then put the flag out in place of Johns Spartan flag he proudly flew every day. He brough the flag to the door with a silly eulogy and we all had a great laugh. We offer our most heartfelt condolences to the family and cherish our memories. Blessings and love,
John L Hawley
