Raymond "Ray" Newman of Manistee Michigan yielded to his brief battle with cancer in the early hours of Monday, August 18, 2025.
Ray was born in Traverse City, Michigan on March 14, 1956, to Raymond "Rex" and Madeleine (Whitmore) Newman.
Growing up walking distance to Traverse City St Francis, Ray attended school there and graduated with the Gladiator Class of 1974.
His inherited passion for the game of golf led him to Ferris State University where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in PGA Golf Management, through the College of Business.
While attending Ferris, he met his partner for life, Jerri (Lutz). They married on October 17, 1981 in Traverse City.
Ray's professional career included 30 years as golf course manager at Silver Sage Air Force Base, Mt Home Idaho.
Ray is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jerri; his mother Madeleine; his sisters, Mary Ann (Ron) Robbins, and Margie (Ed) McHenry. "Uncle Ray" will also be missed by his nieces Ann (Darin) Niday and Lizzy (Darren) Hart, and his Manistee cousins, Janet (Greg) Newman Graham and Jean(Denny) Laskey.
Preceding him in death were his father, Rex Newman, paternal grandparents Frank and Mary (Wicinski) Newman and maternal grandparents, Donald and Madeleine (Becigneul) Whitmore. A cousin, Mary (Niemierowicz) Drew also preceded him.
Ray's vibrant, fun-loving ways, and gregarious disposition will leave a void for his extended family, friends and golfing buddies.
Visitation for Ray will be on Monday, August 25th, from 3-5 PM, with the rosary at 4pm at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 26th at 11AM, St Francis Catholic Church, Traverse City MI. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Manistee Homeward Bound at: homewardboundmanistee.org
