Caryl Sircus Obituary

Caryl Ann Sircus Died peacefully in her home with family by her side on December 14, 2016. Caryl had the ability to recognize pure goodness in people. She was a kind and generous soul with the gift of always giving to others. Caryl was born to John Sircus and Jane Kasdan Sircus on June 30, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY. Caryl grew up in Baldwin, NY where her passion for water started. To Caryl, there was no place more peaceful or exhilarating than the ocean. After graduating from Baldwin High School she attended the University of Massachusetts (UMASS), Amherst. While studying at UMASS, Caryl spent her junior year at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA where she fell in love with California. In the summer of 1983, after graduating from UMASS, Caryl headed west and never looked back. Later, she went back to college and received her Masters in Physical Therapy (PT) from the University of the Pacific, Stockton. She spent her first years out west following her passions and occasionally the Grateful Dead, where she met her husband, Daniel. Listening to live music together was the beginning of their romance and lasted throughout their 26 year marriage and 31 year loving partnership. She enjoyed being outdoors whether it was swimming, hiking, stand up paddle boarding, or taking a walk with their dog, Ella. After practicing PT for a while, Caryl felt she could do more to help patients by combining her PT practice with her love for the water. She founded the non-profit Aquatic Therapy Associates in San Rafael, CA, which she ran for ten years. Caryl had a passion for working with individuals with special needs. She worked with both children and adults, but most of her time was dedicated to children. She was able to give them the gift of movement and freedom in the water. They all responded to her kindness and gentle spirit and thrived in her presence. Most recently Caryl was working as a PT at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, CA. Caryl and her husband put down their roots in San Rafael, CA. where they raised two wonderful daughters, Leah and Talia. Caryl loved going to all of the girls' extra-curricular activities. She was always on the sidelines cheering them on. Caryl is survived by her husband, Daniel Guliasi and her daughters Leah Guliasi, and Talia Guliasi; her parents Jane Kasdan Sircus and John Sircus; her sisters, Patti (Todd) Bender, Nanci (Adam) Lempert (Portland, OR). She also leaves behind adoring nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Caryl has touched the lives of so many people and her spirit will be with them always. As a final gesture of giving Caryl made a gift to the Brain Support Network. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to this organization www.brainsupportnetwork.org#donate, or Hospice By The Bay http://hospicebythebay.org/donors/ donate-now/, or Mayo Clinic Neuroscience Research http s://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/donateMC?_ga=1.242453638.5085362.1482436404. A memorial service is being planned for early next year.

Caryl was such an angel to our family. She brought pain relief and exercise and joy to our Stephanie, through Aquatic Therapy Associates, and helped me so much as well, Stephanie's mother. We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful, gentle, courageous and magnificent soul who brought such joy and healing to each of us. We cherish all our beautiful memories of Caryl and send love and hugs and deepest condolences to her beloved children Leah and Talia and husband Daniel and Caryl's family. Her memory will always be a blessing!!

Caryl was such a beautiful person. She helped me a lot some years ago with back pain through water PT at the JCC. I also knew her through attending psychomotor workshops & that community. My heart breaks for her family & she will be dearly missed <3

I knew Caryl through the Marin JCC. I am an Aquatics Instructor at the JCC and we shared time in the pool when she had her Aquatic Therapy program there. I often witnessed her professionalism and dedication to her clients. Shortly before her diagnosis, Caryl and I swam together for the US Masters swim program at the JCC. We often shared a lane and became swimming buddies. We both shared a love of water. In talking to people who knew her at the club, she will be remembered for being a kind, caring, and wonderful woman. RIP Caryl, you will be missed.

All of us at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center remember and are grateful for Caryl's many dedicated years of service working in our pool with adults and children with therapeutic and special needs. She touched the lives of countless clients and staff with her love of water and her joy of life. Caryl's healing work will always be remembered. Thank you, Cheryll Boissevain and JCC aquatics staff.

I am glad I was able to reconnect with Caryl last time she was in NY
Caryl is one of those childhood friends that stays in your heart even though she moved across the country. Her kind spirit, and sharp mind will certainly be missed

You were a wonderful friend and neighbor. So generous of spirit. So warm and caring. I remember that we shared the morning of 9-11 together. We did not have television so I came over to your home and we watched the unbeliveable unfold. What I remember most was how calm you were. So unbelievably calm. You, a New Yorker, holding to your compassionate, warrior spirit. That is who you , forever in my heart.
