Doreen Dee McBirney September 29, 1935 January 27, 2021 Doreen Dee McBirney, born September 29, 1935 in Huntington Beach, California passed away peacefully January 27, 2021 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Harry (Mac) McBirney; her sister Joan Spaulding; brothers William Glenn Zimmerman and Ron Troxler; and step-daughter Margaret (Peggy) Mills. Doreen is survived by her three children, Kathleen (Kelly) Hinde, Kimberley Welty and Scott McBirney; step-daughter Virginia (Vin) Frazier; grandchildren Brianna Welty, Cynthia Fall and Patrick Hinde; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Cooper Fall and Clementine Hinde. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. Doreen grew up in San Francisco, attending Balboa High School, and worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, where she met her husband, whom she married in 1962, and they settled in Marin County. Doreen enjoyed being a homemaker, participating in her childrens' school and extracurricular activities. She taught Sunday school and was a Girl Scout leader. When her children were older and her husband retired, she returned to the workforce, working for CSAA, and ended her working years working in the child support division for the County of Marin. She and her family traveled the United States extensively, visiting many state and national parks and family members. Doreen was an avid reader and bird lover (particularly penguins and humming birds); she grew beautiful orchids and will be remembered as a wonderful friend and community volunteer. A memorial service is being planned for the fall. The family requests donations in her memory be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
