Edward Hall Cosgriff III Edward (Ted) Hall Cosgriff, III, 67, passed on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at his San Rafael home after a two-year battle with brain cancer that vanquished a vibrant man who lived his life serving others. Ted was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend. Born June 22, 1951, he grew up in San Mateo where he lived with his parents Edward and Barbara, sister Christine, and brother Michael. Ted had a passion for his family, friends, teaching, and football. Whether at home, in the classroom, on the football field or Marin Special Olympics basketball court, Ted was a humble teacher, mentor, friend, and highly regarded colleague, touching hearts and leaving each with a sense that someone cared. He was a great listener and an amazingly supportive friend. His aspiration was always to develop the full potential of the students and athletes and for them to know that there was always a safe place for them to grow. Ted attended Aragon High School in San Mateo. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Chico State University. He earned his Teaching Credential at San Francisco State University. He taught at Martin Luther King School in Hayward for 4 years, then Davidson Middle School in San Rafael for 8 years, retiring as the Chair of the History Department in 2014. Ted was always organizing sports events from childhood neighborhood hoops, to helping start and leading the Marin Special Olympics Basketball program for over 40 years, building sports programs at Davidson Middle School and coaching football at Marin high schools including San Rafael, Tam, Terra Linda, Redwood, and Mt. Eden in Hayward. He was a football coach at San Rafael High School from 2014-2017, the last two years as the Head Football Coach and 'Athletic Academic Advisor'. He is survived by his loving Wife, Patricia Giacalone Cosgriff, three beautiful children, Jennifer, Ashley and Jamie, sister and brother-in-law Christine and Sidney Crockett, nephew and niece Skipper and Danielle Crockett, and their children and many beloved friends.
