Frank Cassou Obituary
Frank Albert Cassou It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Albert Cassou, on July 25, 2021; a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, teacher to many and friend to all. His great joy and enthusiasm for life was only matched by his great desire to be helpful and to serve his family and community. He was 92 years young. Frank Albert Cassou was born June 26, 1929 in San Francisco, CA to French immigrants Albert and Marie Cassou. He was the youngest of two sons. He was preceded in death by his older brother Edmond Cassou, who was 14 years his senior, in 1996. Frank grew up in San Francisco, enjoying the rich culture and diversity of the "City," and often told wonderful stories of his childhood, rich in San Francisco history. Frank attended St. Ignatius High School, and the University of San Francisco, where he met the love of his life, and future wife of 65 years, Jane Edwards. Frank served in the U.S. Navy between high school and college. He discovered his love of teaching while stationed in San Diego during the Korean War. Frank became a teacher and taught at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley for many years. He had a passion for education and believed in the potential of each and every student. He fondly recalled his years as a teacher long after retirement. Frank then returned to school himself, receiving his masters in School Business Administration, and worked as a business manager for the Tamalpais High School District and the Petaluma School District thereafter. He loved his work and dedicated himself to making a difference in the communities he served. He was well-loved and highly regarded by all. After retiring, Frank continued to serve his community as a volunteer at Pt. Reyes National Seashore for almost 30 years. He also volunteered at Whistlestop in their Computer Lab, and at Tiburon Railroad Museum. He loved serving his community, and in serving was inspired, engaged and grateful for each and every day. Frank had many gifts and talents, and shared them abundantly with our world. He was always willing to help, went above and beyond in all he did, and gave tirelessly of himself. He loved people, and could talk with anyone and everyone about anything and everything, at great length, with sincere interest. He had a gift for conversation and made friends wherever he went. He always looked for the good in everyone, and always highlighted their strengths and virtues. Frank will be remembered and cherished by all who were blessed to know him. His memory will be honored and cherished by his loving family: his beloved wife Jane Cassou; his four cherished children, son Frank Cassou Jr. and wife Katie, son Steve Cassou and his wife Rebeca, daughter Deanne Cassou Garcia and her husband Christopher, and son William Cassou; his eight adored grandchildren: Jack, Isabelle, Will Henry and Sophia Cassou, Caroline and Lauren Cassou, and Christopher-Michael and Emmanuelle Cassou Garcia; his cherished nieces and nephews, Phil and April Cassou, Marilyn and Willie Reagan, Ron and Deborah Cassou, Tom Cassou, Charlene Cassou, and Mike Nivens and all their remarkable children; and his loving family in France, Jean-Marc and Laurence Fiton, Jacques and Brigitte Fiton, Claude, Michel and Therese Fiton, and all their remarkable children. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Hilary Church in Tiburon on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Frank will be laid to rest at CalVet Cemetery in Monterey, CA the following week.
