Maurice H. Picard Jr.

1927 - 2017

Maurice H. Picard, Jr. "Pinky" Picard, 90, died on September 6, 2017 in Chico, his home for 40 years. Born on July 3, 1927 to Maurice and Ida Picard in San Rafael, he had a sister, Joan, who predeceased him in 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1949 as an Electrician's Mate aboard the USS Noxubee, mostly in the North Atlantic Ocean. He and his wife of 48 years, Nancy Diane Treyer Picard, 1931-2004, lived in San Rafael until 1977. Pinky retired from Pacific Bell in 1982. He was an avid fisherman, amateur radio operator (W6FQS), skin diver, barbershop chorus singer, and loved backpacking and outdoor activities. After he retired, he traveled extensively in Belize, Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala. He is survived by two sons, James of Chico, and Douglas of Cameron Park, as well as 5 grandchildren: Jacob, Jeovonna, and Elizabeth of Chico, Kimberly of Boston, and Jeffrey, currently residing in Los Angeles. Pinky also leaves behind three nephews: Ted Carlson, Dave Pedroli, and Gary Pedroli, and will be missed by his many friends and "ham radio" buddies around the world. He will be interred in a private service on Monday, September 18th at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for lunch and remembrances at San Rafael Joe's at 1:00 pm.
