Garry Curren Obituary

Garry Nathan Curren

MARION: Garry Nathan Curren, age 71, passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 21, 2011, at Marion General Hospital. He had been ill for awhile but his death was unexpected. He was born the third son to Charles W. and Eleanor L. Curren in Marion, OH on August 21, 1940. They preceded him in death along with his brothers, Charles Curren, Vernon Curren and his sister-in-law Wilma Taylor Curren and his wonder dog Salt.

On April 19, 1959, Garry married his childhood sweetheart Rosemary Stanley Curren. She survives along with his beloved children, Cristi Curren Ludwig (John) and Garry N. Curren II (Lois). His precious grandchildren: Elizabeth M. Ludwig, John Curren Ludwig, Chuck H. Curren and Austin M. Curren. He is also survived by 2 nieces Teresa Kelly and Jackie Dains, and 2 nephews Vernon Curren and Scott Curren, Aunt Eileen Butterman and several cousins.

Garry and Rosemary were baptized together into God's Kingdom at 14 years of age at Fite Memorial Baptist Church. They were married at and are members of Emanuel Lutheran Church. Garry was a Harding High School graduate and finished his education at OSU in Columbus while working at the Erie Railroad. He then went with GTE of Ohio to finish his career, retiring after 25 years. During his retirement Garry enjoyed rebuilding cars. He had a 'feel' for perfection in his touch. His work was extraordinary.

He loved teaching his children the wonders of the world in his little 'study shed' behind the house. Exploring the wonders of their little hands and teaching them their numbers and math. He always accepted them for who they were, encouraged them and wished them the best that life could offer. He loved to play football with them in the field when they were little which led to sitting in the rain and snow for many weekend football games of his son. He always said: "I have the most beautiful daughter in the world and the toughest son! What more could you want!" He always taught by example. He was a man of few words but be always said what he meant and meant what he said. He died the way he lived - in his own way.

He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his "Old Rose" and his dog, Salt, surveying his beautiful property. He saw God in the beauty of the land. He will be missed.

Visitation will be held at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion, on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 11AM to 2PM. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2PM with Pastor Kevin Kehn officiating. Immediately following the service, the family would like to invite everyone to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 South Prospect Street, Marion, for a time of lunch and fellowship. If so desired, donations may be made to the Marion County Humane Society.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Garry's family, and condolences may be expressed to them online by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

Another classmate has passed. It is always such a sad feeling, empty and unexplainable. I enjoyed reading of Garry's life, it was full and memorable. He was a good man, and a person of diversity. An exemplary life, leaving us that remain to follow his light. God Bless.
