John Richard Constantine, 83, of Agawam, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2025. He was born at the old Providence Hospital in Holyoke, the 4th of 10 children to
Anthony J. Constantine Sr. and Rose Alma (Suprenant) Constantine. The family moved to the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee where he grew up and attended local parochial and public schools. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Anna Maria College. John retired from the Army and the Army National Guard of Massachusetts full-time force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 38 years of Enlisted, Non-Commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer service. John was a loving and much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend to many. After their retirement, John and Carol moved to Largo, Florida.
Due to Carol's illness, they moved back to Massachusetts in 2022. John was a life member of the Florida Holiday Isle Elks Lodge #1912 and a member of the Florida American Legion Post 273 in Madeira Beach. John was actively involved in various community organizations and found joy in his hobbies and community activities. He loved spending time with family and friends and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and infectious laughter. John's legacy will continue to live on through his loving family and the countless lives he touched throughout his years of service and friendship.
John leaves his beloved wife and soul mate of 62 years, Carol (Zwirko) Constantine, son David Constantine and his wife Heather Wyson Constantine, daughter Tracey Constantine and her husband Greg Sears, daughter Karen Higgins and her husband Gary and grandchildren Ashley Higgins and partner Nick Jouett and Ian Higgins and partner Sienna Caron. He also leaves sister Pauline Roy and her husband Roland, sister Christina Constantine and her partner Ronald Krzeminski, brother Manuel Constantine, sister Beatrice Rielle, sister Theresa LaBarge and her husband Harvey "George" and sister-in-law Patricia Zwirko and sister-in-law Linda Biron and her husband Dave. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, brother Anthony J. Constantine, Jr., sister and brother-in-law Alice Roy and Roger, sister Catherine Touchette and brother-in-law Henry "Hank", brother Hervey Constantine and sister-in-law Sandra, brother-in-law Donald Rielle, sister-in-law Dolores "Dolly" Constantine and brother-in-law Robert Zwirko.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 10:30AM-12:30PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral and Cremation, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will conclude at 2PM in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
