John Burgess Obituary

John Ernest Burgess, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Olida Waldean Burgess, son John Burgess Jr. and all of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Constance Burgess and Jennifer Burgess-Smith (Scott), grandchildren; Bryan Burgess (Samantha), Brandon Burgess (Cristina),Samantha Jarzynka (Michael), Emily Brewster (Jesse) eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Fancy Farm, he served in the Korean War in the Navy as a helicopter rescue squadron. He worked as a mechanical engineer and has many patents. He loved fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, and going to Florida in the winter. He was a member of AGWA Honda Goldwing Association Illinois Chapter. John never met a stranger, was never at a loss for words, made friends everywhere he went, and was either humming, singing, or dancing.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, Maplewood Cemetery with Brent Kimbler officiating.

Friends are ask to meet at the cemetery at the service time. Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield is in charge of arrangements.
