Kathleen Conahan Obituary

Kathleen (Kate) Conahan, 60, Hazleton, passed away quietly on Saturday afternoon.

A life-long Southsider, she will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and aunt. Since 1975, she worked at St. Gabriel's Parish and served for years as the Parish Office Manager.

Kate will be missed by the many lives she touched over the years. She is described by the many who knew her as having a heart of gold, who would give you the shirt off her back. She was truly selfless. Her infectious laugh and smile leaves a lasting impression on each of us. Kate loved to cook and her Sunday brunches at home were legendary. She had a passion for gardening and loved flowers.

In many ways, Kate was a very private person too and she valued her independence. Never one for cameras or having her picture taken, Kate would be surprised by the many celebrations of her life happening among groups of friends, who are getting together on social video conferences to reminisce about their time with her.

She was a member of St. Gabriel's Church-Annunciation Parish, Hazleton and the Hazleton Avenues Rehabilitation Partners. Kate's organized group trips to Ireland for St. Gabriel's Parish are still remembered by everyone who went. In the words of her Pastor, Kate's optimism was contagious in a sea of negativity.

The daughter of Alice M. (McNally) and the late John E. Conahan, she was born in Hazleton on February 13, 1960 and graduated from Bishop Hafey High School and Lackawanna Junior College.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a brother, Michael and his wife, Maureen of Clarks Summit, PA; sister, Patricia and her husband, Robert McGeehan of Bethlehem, PA; sister, Ann and her husband, Peter Fagan of Conyngham, PA; sister, Mary and her husband, Michael Ziegler of Drums, PA; brother, John and his wife, Tana of Bethlehem, PA; sister ,Colleen Conahan of Beaver Meadows, PA; sister, Alice Conahan of Hazleton, PA; and brother, Bryan Conahan of Chesapeake, VA. Her brother, Kevin Conahan, passed away in April, 2008.

Kate is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Patrick, Hannah, Brendan, Colan, Caitlin, Katie, Sarah, Matthew, Jackie, Alyssa, Chloe, John, Zach, Amanda, Kevin, Michael and Bridget.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Donations in Kate's name may be made to Catholic Social Services, Hazleton.

Fierro Funeral Service, 26 West Second Street, Hazleton is in charge of arrangements.

My sincere condolences for each one of Kates family members. She was a beautiful, wonderful, and strong lady. I had the pleasure to meet her on my delivery route for UPS at St Gabes and her home. She kept me busy at both places but it was an absolute pleasure to meet her and get to know her over the 12yrs+ that I delivered the south side of Hazleton. She was the bright point of my day because no matter how busy she was or what type of day its been for her, she always always asked me how I was and if my day wasnt going to well, she always gave me that big smiley and say, honey it can always be worse, be thankful for what you have... take a lollipop, lollipops make everything better!
She will be greatly missed!! I am in such disbelief that she has been taken away at such a young age. I will pray for you all to find peace in the loss of such an awesome amazing soul ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Sincerely,
Steph (Stacy) Barnisky
UPS delivery lady

she called me Stacy for the longest time until she asked on of my coworkers wheres Stacy, when I was on vacation. My coworker had no idea who she meant until she said, Stacy my UPS lady... he started laughing and said, oh you mean Steph?
She was so embarrassed she called me Stacy for years and apologized over and over again. I told her, I answer to anything, at that point in time she called me Stacy for so long.... I was actually Stacy. We laughed and laughed!! Loved her so much!!!!

Kate, you will be deeply missed. I'll always remember you as the voice of St. Gabes as you helped so many times in my search for information for my family tree. I loved telling you of how I remembered your father who was also held in very high regard by my dad who also worked at the Post Office. Blessings to you and your family.
