Michael Fickes Obituary

Michael E. Fickes, 76, of Catasauqua died on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Cedarbrook Nursing home in Allentown. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Fabel) Fickes and would have celebrated 55 years together this November. Born in Lock Haven, PA he was a son of the late Lester and Virginia (Schenck) Fickes.

Michael attended the University of Buffalo and finished his Bachelors in Education at Lock Haven University. He went on to attend East Stroudsburg and Penn State University to receive his Master's degree. Michael was a health and physical education teacher for the Catasauqua High School from 1968 to his retirement in 1999. He loved football and coached for Catasauqua High from 1968-1989. Michael was a member of St. Mary's Church in Catasauqua. He was a board member for the Catasauqua Library and was also involved with the Catasauqua Booster Club, Catasauqua Food Bank and Catty's Junior Baseball league. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving along with his wife Jacki are his sons Jeffrey and wife Coleen and Bradley; brothers Stephen Fickes and wife Patricia; sisters Nancy Moore and husband Dean; and Kathleen Bitner and husband Jeffery; grandchildren Liam, Makayla, Rory and step-granddaughter Hailey.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday September 20, 2021 at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street, Catasauqua, PA 18032. His viewing will be from 9 -11am Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made payable to the funeral home to establish a Catasauqua High School Scholarship Honoring Senior Lineman and/or the Catasauqua Food Bank. A great man and friend. I am so sorry for your loss. We became instant freinds when I started working at CASD many years ago. He and I both had a common link of passion for the outdoors and had many conversations in the faculty room. It has been a blessing and honor to know him.
