EUGENE HASKINS Obituary

EUGENE HASKINS 7/2/1933 - 5/4/2025 Eugene Elwood Haskins was born in Caldwell, Idaho to Obie Leroy and Lottie Viola Haskins on July 2, 1933. The family moved to Cascade when he was 5 days old. Times were tough, but they got by the best they could. In the Winter of 1939, when Gene was 6 years old, he was walking past the Potts' place and "Wham" he got hit by a snowball! Well, 5-year-old Patti Potts had thrown it and ran into her house where she told her Mom, "That boy in the road is going to be my husband"! After a few years, Gene purposely flunked a grade to be in the same class with her. They fell for each other and were inseparable. In the Winter of 1949, they quit school. Gene was 16 and Pat 15. They ran away and got married on December 2, 1949. Most said that it wouldn't last, but they managed to get in 69 years of marriage before Mom passed, May 23, 2018. Dad did a variety of jobs while growing up from getting firewood a lot, to bucking bales of hay. He pulled green chain at the Cascade Sawmill, worked for the Railroad, the Forest Service and drove logging trucks. All of his jobs gave him good experience for being a "Preacher", as he never knew what kind of situations were going to come up! He pastored Churches in Kuna, Cascade, Elgin and Smith's Ferry, where he "Retired". In Retirement, he continued to perform weddings and funerals. Logging over 100 of each, in his little black book, over the years. On Sunday, May 4th, at the age of 91, Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his Granddaughter's home, in Mesa, Idaho, where he went to join Mom, in Heaven. He also joined his parents, Obie Leroy and Lottie Viola Haskins, siblings LeRoy James Haskins, Francis Ellen Olsen, Albert Alfonse Haskins and Jessie Marion Haskins. Gene is survived by his two Children: Russell (Daleise) and Roger (Pattie), Grandchildren: Kristina, William, Geneive and Jasen, along with several Great Grandchildren and a few Great-Great Grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed! Memorial Service will be held on May 24th at 1 o'clock at the Community Church in Cascade with a potluck dinner to follow.

What a wonderful person he was, and as a couple they glowed like the sun on a dark day! Would bet their reunion in heaven was awesome. I´m a shirt tail relative, but I admired and loved them both.

My husband, Ronald Phillips thought highly of Gene, and says that he was a very hard worker in all that he did. He had a very well loved name with all that knew him.
