Margaret Grindstaff
November 25, 1944 - May 26, 2025
Margaret Bean Grindstaff, a cherished educator and beloved family member, went to meet with her Lord and Savior at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, on May 26, 2025. Born on November 25, 1944, in McDowell County, Margaret dedicated over 40 years of her life to teaching, with 37 of those years spent at Old Fort Elementary. Her unwavering faith in God and commitment to her students earned her the distinction of Teacher of the Year on two occasions, a testament to her exceptional influence and dedication to education.
Margaret's life was marked not only by her professional achievements but also by her deep love for her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Harold Grindstaff; and her two devoted daughters, Linda Butler and her husband, Mike, and Beth Stamey and her husband, Sean. Her son, Howard Grindstaff, also carries forward her legacy; along with her sisters, Margie Massingill and her husband, Rev. Donnie, and Judy Logan. Margaret is further survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a significant source of joy in her life, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her love for teaching, Margaret had a passion for crafts and relished spending time with her siblings. Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling in their motor coach, exploring new places and creating lasting memories. A proud and generous host, she opened her home and heart to 13 foreign exchange students over the years, enriching her life and the lives of those she welcomed into her family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Bean and Ruth Knupp Bean, who instilled in her the values of compassion and education that she carried throughout her life.
A gathering to honor her life will be held on June 8, 2025, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at Grace Community Church in Marion, N.C. Please join the family for a reception as they honor Margaret's teaching legacy and bless students. The family ask that you bring school supplies which will go to students at Old Fort Elementary school where Margaret served for 37 years and provided supplies for kids in need.
As we remember Margaret Bean Grindstaff, we celebrate a remarkable woman who touched many lives through her teaching, her love for her family, and her indomitable spirit. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
