CARL KASEY Obituary

CARL KASEY Carl Leo Kasey, 101, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, surrounded by family at MTM Boarding Care Home, McPherson. He was born on November 28, 1922 to Roy Day and Frances Margaret (Linholm) Kasey at their farm in Groveland Township. Carl attended school for four years at Mt. Zion School near their farm. When Mt. Zion closed, his education continued in the McPherson school system through high school. After completing 3 years at McPherson College, World War II interrupted Carl's education, and he joined the Navy. After 3 years of service in the Navy, and a variety of assignments in different locations, he returned to McPherson College where he continued playing basketball and completed his degree in Chemistry. On May 8, 1949, Carl was united in marriage to Betty J. Bedell, also of McPherson. They were blessed with two children, Karen and Dennis. In the fall of 1957, Carl entered a new career as a teacher in the McPherson school district. Over the next 28 years, he primarily taught Physical Science courses, and eventually earned a Master's Degree in Biology from Emporia State University. As a life-long resident of the McPherson area, Carl was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He could be seen throughout the community volunteering in many ways including at The American Legion, Save 'N Share, All Schools Day parades, Meals on Wheels, and FUMC. Carl loved attending football and basketball games while cheering on the Bullpups and Bulldogs and could often be found in the stands supporting his great-grandchildren in their activities. Carl is survived by his children, Karen (John) Regier of Hesston, KS, and Dennis Kasey of La Grange, GA; grandchildren, Chris (Aimee) Achilles of Manhattan, KS, and Ryan (Shannon) Achilles of McPherson, KS; and 5 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Aubrie, Cody, Sydney and Delanie. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane; sister, Betty L.; and wife, Betty J. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 27, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Andrew Conard officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, Save N' Share, or American Legion Post #24 in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
