Tammi Heinrichs Rome

Tammi Rome Obituary

Tammi Heinrichs Rome of Holly Springs, GA passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 after a long and brave battle with lung cancer.

Tammi was born on December 1, 1958 in Illinois to Herbert and Ruth (Jackson) Heinrichs. Tammi was the youngest of three girls, with her sisters joking she was a 'surprise' because she was so much younger than them. She enjoyed cheerleading and sang in her school's choir from an early age.

As a freshman in high school, she met Gene, her future husband of 42 years and built a life first in Illinois then in Atlanta together. Tammi was involved in everything her three children did from PTA to sports. She could usually be found on weekends at a ball field, gymnastics meet, or basketball gym. She was always their biggest supporter. Her favorite places were Hilton Head and Orlando, where her and Gene vacationed every year with the family.

After enjoying her time as a stay-at-home mom, Tammi worked for Cobb County Schools for over a decade and was named employee of the year before she retired in early 2023. Tammi loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She insisted on being called Nonni and was a favorite among her many grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ruth Heinrichs, and her granddaughter Charlie.

She is survived by her husband Gene Rome Jr., her sisters Cindy Skonard and Penny Bagnall, her children Gene (Hannah) Rome, Kristin (Brett) Winzeler, and Cortney (Tyler) Featherston, her grandchildren Emma, Avery, Aubrey, Faye, Riley, Finn, and Hallie, and many other family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in Georgia early next year (2024). More information to follow.

Loved Tammi from the first day we met at Compton Elementary. Friendly, sweet, thoughtful, conscientious in her work and respected by all. Tammi excelled in her job and was chosen to work at the County offices. We kept in close touch over the years and met Tammi for dinner at various places and shared stories of her family and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. I will miss Tammi so much and consider it a blessing to call her Friend. My condolences to her family and keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Tammi was not only a neighbor but a friend. She was one of the nicest and sweetest people I have ever met. Proud Mom, Wife, and Nonni! Heaven gained an angel and we lost an incredible person

Gene, I was so sad to learn of Tammi´s passing. I went to school with Tammi. She was a wonderful person. She always had kind words for others. She was a great friend in school.

Tammi was one of the first people to welcome me to the neighborhood in Acworth. She and another sweet neighbor encouraged me to start playing tennis at at 34 years old! What fun we had! She always had an open door, a smile, or a cup of coffee. She was a master at BUNCO and a gracious hostess, and the good neighbor who would let you know if you left the garage door open. Usually quiet and loving she will be missed by many. How wonderful to know she had a loving husband and raised her family to see all of her children grown with families of their own. Rest in peace sweet friend.

Tammi was an elementary and high school classmate for both me, and my wife. A class behind me, she always was friendly, but, struck me as a bit shy. She did hang around with my wife, Gail, and they were good friends. I did also know her husband, Gene, a classmate of my older sister, and her brother-in law, Ronnie, who I did have classes with, mainly, choir and phys. ed.
