Ruby Lopez

1934 - 2017

Ruby Jane Lopez, our beloved matriarch, passed peacefully at home and joined the love of her life in Heaven on Thursday, March 23rd. She is survived by her five children, Alberta Lopez, Armando "Buddy" Lopez, Melinda Lopez-Woodward, Ruby Lynn Lopez and Mario Lopez, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, plus a large extended family through the Contra Costa County Foster Care system.  
Born to Ruby Medina in Sacramento, CA, Baby Ruby was raised with 8 siblings. She first met her husband at 14 years old. They married on July 22, 1951 and were married for 65 years before Armando passed in August 2016. Ruby and Armando started their family with the birth of their first two children in Merced, CA and with a 3rd child on the way they relocated to Concord, CA. Soon after they added their 4th and 5th children in the same family home they spent their lives in and both eventually came to pass.   
"Nana" was a Mother in every sense of the word. She spent her years taking care of others, cooking for anyone she could and loving everyone she met unconditionally. She served as a Foster Mother for 30 years to the county's children most in need, many of whom became permanent members of our family long after their official stay with Foster Care. She kept a house with an open door, show up anytime and she'd get you what you needed - a meal, a hug, advice, a bed to sleep in or a few dollars, whatever it was she'd find a way to provide. She impacted and changed the lives of too many to count and the ripple effect of her life is surely too wide to put into words.  Her family and friends will mourn her deeply and only find comfort in knowing she is with her love of 65 years now in peace.
Visitation will be held on from 12pm to 9pm with a Rosary starting at 7pm on Tuesday March, 28th at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 29th at Our Lady of Mercy Church, located at 459 W. 21st Street in Merced with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Merced.
