Alexander Elfar Obituary

Alexander Elfar
November 7, 1947 - November 4, 2021
Resident of San Carlos
It is with deep sorrow that the Elfar family bids farewell to Iskander Fuad Elfar who passed from this life on Thursday, November 4 in San Carlos, CA. Iskander (Alex) was born in Ramallah on November 7, 1947 and left us a few days before what would have been his 74th birthday. He was the eldest of four children born to Fuad and Wedad (Kaoud) Elfar of Campbell.
Alex is survived by his wife, Hala Aoun Elfar; mother, Wedad; stepdaughter, Maria; sister, Anan Qura (Yousef), brother, Ghassan (Deena); sister-in-law, Shirley; and seven nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Fuad; his brother, Adnan; his nephew, Abid Qura; and his niece, Tina Qura.
Alex was born in Ramallah and graduated from the Friends School. Soon after, in 1966, along with his parents and siblings, he migrated to the U.S. and for two years the Elfar family resided in Connecticut. They migrated to California in 1968 where Alex continued to work long hours to support his immigrant family and continued his education at San Jose State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics. In 1979 he and his brothers purchased the Wonder Ice Cream Company of Monterey, CA and for more than 40 years, Alex developed and expanded it into one of the largest and most successful businesses of its kind in the U.S.
He loved and sought to serve his family, friends and community and Alex was equally loved and respected by all who knew him. He also enjoyed playing golf and cards with his many friends, loved to travel far and wide and was particularly fond of Arabic music.
While we grieve his loss, we are heartened and comforted by the legacy Alex leaves behind as he continues to live in our memories and hearts. May all who knew Alex live long, healthy and prosperous lives. May his memory be eternal.
Services will be held at the Antiochian Orthodox Church of the Redeemer, 380 Magdalena Ave, Los Altos Hills, CA 94024 on Monday, November 8 with a Trisagion Service at 7pm and a Funeral Service at 11am on Tuesday, November 9 with burial to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations in Alex's memory be made to the Antiochian Orthodox Church of the Redeemer.
