David G. Hunter- beloved son, brother, uncle, soulmate and friend passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 22nd (Earth Day) at the age of 32. He passed peacefully surrounded by his closest loved ones.
David was born in Mountain View, CA to his parents, George and Linda Hunter and older sisters, Stacia and Jodi. He lived most of his life in the Hunter Family Home in West San Jose. The last few years he resided in Morgan Hill, CA.
In 2007 he graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz in 2011. In 2015, David graduated from Santa Clara University's accelerated one-year Master of Arts in Education Program with a focus in Mathematics. David's love for education had recently landed him back at Santa Clara University where he was currently pursuing an MBA. His future goal was to combine his love for teaching with his knowledge of business and work in corporate education. He also had aspirations of starting his own company that would automate the teaching process, using VR, gamification and AI. He also had a dream of working alongside the love of his life, Leah, in some capacity where they would counsel and help people who suffer from mental health issues and grief.
David taught high school math for five years before entering into the MBA program at SCU. He had a passion for inspiring students to believe in themselves and all that they could accomplish in life.
David is survived by his mother, Linda, his sister Jodi (Kokoletsos), his brother-in-law Greg, his nieces Stacia and Hope, his brother-like cousin Christopher Stange and wife Shannon and their children Aden and Mila as well as his beloved soulmate, Leah Sparrowe. David is preceded in death by his sister Stacia (26) and his father George (61).
David was a true lover of life! He radiated positivity, enthusiasm, love and light to all he encountered. He had a deep sense of compassion and empathy for others that he learned from having lost his sister and father at a young age. Music was his religion and he found great joy in dancing, singing and being in the moment. He loved to attend live music festivals, concerts and comedy shows. He loved the outdoors as he grew up camping, fishing, boating and telling stories by the campfire with his dad. David and his love, Leah, enjoyed hiking regularly around the Bay Area. In the recent years, he developed a love for cooking and would often make gourmet meals for his loved ones.
David also had a passion for movies and books. He was an avid reader who was always in the middle of a new book, usually a Stephen King novel. David became extremely passionate about progressive and social justice issues hoping to make the world a better place.
David had a brilliant mind and a great sense of humor. Anyone who knew Dave knew his love for talking, teaching and debating.
Losing this radiant light in our family, we will indeed struggle, however, we feel incredibly blessed and thankful to have had this beautiful soul for as long as we did. We love you so much, David, and will miss you fiercely but we take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with Stacia and Dad in heaven. Oh, what a reunion that must have been! We can hear the blues music blasting already.
