Evelyn Gate Obituary

Evelyn Gate
June 8, 1930 - December 10, 2020
Resident of Saratoga
Evelyn Mark Gate passed away peacefully December 10th, 2020 in Sunnyvale. Born in Boston, MA and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Evelyn was an alumnus of Withrow High School Class of '47 and the University of Cincinnati Teachers College Class of '51.
Evelyn spent her single years as a Cincinnati elementary school teacher and frequently visited her sisters in New York City. In New York, she met James Mark Gate whom she would marry in 1956 and settle near his hometown of Philadelphia, PA. In 1964, as part of the Westinghouse (now Northrup Grumman) marine division transfer, the couple moved to Saratoga, CA. In the 1970s, while working in retail and raising her children, Evelyn earned her real estate license and started her second career. Her pastime was spent with James and her many lifelong friends from the Chi-Am Circle Club (President '73) playing bridge, golfing, and traveling the world.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, James (2017), and survived by children, Michael (Karen Boyko), Jamison Mark (Renee), Carolynne (Tommy Yen); and 7 grandchildren.
Due to the current pandemic, Evelyn was privately laid to rest at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga and a celebration of life will follow when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chi Am Circle Club: Evelyn Mark Gate Memorial Scholarship Fund (PO Box 2756, Cupertino, CA 95015) are suggested.
