Florence Biscay
January 4, 1914 - March 13, 2016
Lifelong Resident of Burlingame
On Sunday morning, March 13, 2016, we said farewell to our most beloved Mama Flo, 102 years young. Florence Alice Biscay was the devoted mother of Kenneth Biscay, loving mother-in-law of Katherine Biscay and most amazing grandmother to her granddaughter, Genevieve Biscay and her grandson, Jean Biscay. Her husband, Jean Biscay predeceased Florence in February of 1992 after more than 46 years of marriage. She was a loving aunt to Caroline Hawks, Bill Flynn, Chris Banco, Cheryl Falcone, Reg Moorby, Bill Pedigo and Harry Pedigo. Florence was a great aunt and great grand aunt to many treasured nieces and nephews.
Florence was born at home on Bancroft Road in Burlingame, lived her entire life within the city limits and passed away in a residence next door to the very first apartment she lived in as a married lady. Florence was a woman ahead of her time, but without a political agenda. She attended the College of San Mateo at the age of 42 and earned her certification as a Dental Assistant. Shortly after graduation, Florence went to work for pediatric dentist, Dr. Eva Sulon of Burlingame. She remained with Dr. Sulon until Florence's retirement at 77. Florence and Dr. Sulon traveled the world together, visiting Mexico, Central America, China and Europe, including many a trip to Mono Hot Springs, a remote campground in the southern Sierras. As a young boy, her son Ken has many fond memories of mushroom hunting, clambering around the boulders of the North fork of the San Joaquin River hunting for trout and soaking in the hot springs with his mom and Dr. Sulon. Some of Katherine's favorite memories of her mom-in-law were going to musicals and ballets in San Francisco, magical Christmas mornings, delicious Easter dinners and catching lots of trout for dinner at Mono Hot Springs. Florence also loved photography, baking birthday cakes for her family, taking art classes, and traveling. Genevieve has many fond memories of making cakes with her grandma and Jean remembers eating his grandma's lovingly prepared special lemon birthday cakes.
At Florence's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the
Shriner's Hospital at 2425 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95817 or the
Shriner's Hospital of your choice in memory of Florence A. Biscay.
