Jason Grogan Obituary

Jason Grogan
August 13, 1973 - April 12, 2014
Resident of Soquel
Services will be held in Aptos for Jason Grogan who passed away with his family at his bedside at Dominican Hospital, following a lengthy battle he fought against lymphangiomatosis. Born in San Jose, California, he was 40 years old. Jason graduated from Gunderson High School and immediately began a career that would serve others in the emergency response, police, and firefighting professions. Jason worked as a Paramedic for Monterey and Santa Clara Counties. He worked for the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department for a time, and was a volunteer fire fighter with Carmel Fire Department. Jason retired from the Capitola Police Department and leaves a host of fellow officers, colleagues, and friends whose care and dedication for his family and their well-being during his illness, will never be forgotten.
Jason had a passion for dirt bikes and mountain bikes. Anything with two wheels was of interest to him, and his family and friends will continue to share in the stories and the love he had for riding. Jason and his wife Christine were also accomplished travelers; visiting destinations that included: numerous places in Europe, Caribbean and Mexico. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother and friend who accomplished much in his brief life journey.
Jason is survived by his wife and son Christine and Jake Grogan. He also leaves his mother Lucille (Jerry) Caires; his father Richard (Judith) Grogan and their daughter Maggie; and his maternal grandmother "Nonni" Caginia. Jason also leaves his brother, and sisters; Michael (Donna) Grogan, Carolyn (Michael) Jimenez and Tami (Kris) Kroening. Jason leaves numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will begin at 1 pm at Twin Lakes Church (2701 Cabrillo College Drive in Aptos) on 22 April 2014. The committal ceremony will be private at Santa Cruz Memorial Park. An educational trust fund has been established for his son Jake, and any memorial contributions may be made c/o Jacob Grogan 4041 Soquel Drive, Suite A-200 in Soquel, CA 95073. To all o f Jason's Family (especially his son)- My name is Steve Biskup and I graduated from Gunderson High School with Jason. Unbelievably, I just heard about his sickness and passing today (03-11-15). I heard about it from an acquaintance while I was on duty, here with the San Jose police dept. I IMMEDIATELY felt my heart sink and teared up! Jason was a friend of mine throughout high school and without a doubt, one of the best guys I knew throughout my years there! i was on both the wrestling and football teams with him. Jason was the kind of guy that would stick up for the not so popular kids, even though he was one of the most popular. Jake, I want you to know that you father left an impression on me that will last a lifetime. His smile and great personality stick out in my memory as if it were yesterday. Live your life like your dad did and nothing but greatness will result. I wish I would have known about his illness because I would like to have told him what he meant to me.....Jason, i miss you, even though we last hung out back in the high school days. That's the kind of lasting impression you left on people. I will serve as an officer everyday from now on, with a part of me thinking of you partner!

Dear Christine and Jake

God be with you in your sorrow,
Through the night and through the day;
May some blessing come tomorrow
That will clear its cloud away.

God is generous in His giving,
Give Him now the soul that's fled:
May He bless with strength the living,
Rest eternally the dead.

Jason you were such a big part of our family and we have so many memories of the fun times we had together at Sunset Beach, Markeleeville, Gerle Creek Campgrounds, Pal Track, motorcycle riding at Hollister Hills and many other places. You were such a nice person as a kid and always had that big smile on your face. I will never forget the time you and Eric “borrowed” my car and drove it to Campbell to meet some girls and then locked the keys in the car and had to call us to be rescued! I could go on and on about special instances but it makes me so sad because you have been called to heaven way to soon. My heart goes out to your wife Christine your beautiful son and the many other family members and friends who will miss you so much. I saw a note my grandmother wrote to my dad in a Bible that she gave to him when he left for WWII and it said, “You will always be in my heart like the sun shining.” I would like to say that to you Jason on your journey to heaven….”You will always be in my heart like the sun shining.” Your old neighbor….Sue Simpson

Christine and Jake,
I am terribly saddened to learn of Jason's passing I have the fondest memories of him. Jason's character, courage, intellect, fun loving nature and enthusiasm for living life were inspirational to me. During quite moments, I would sit with Jason at his desk and we would share our thoughts about life and work. Jason often "cracked the tough nut" bringing a smile to my face or a belly laugh; Jason was my dose of morning cheer.
Once, Jason regaled me with a tall tale of your visit to the Vatican. After your visit, I am sure the Swiss Guard was on high alert. There was a time I saw Jason walking down the hallway to his office with " little" Jake in tow lugging his father's 64 ounce bottle of water- Jason told me it was Jake's workout routine. Not to worry Christine, Jason reached down, swept up Jake in his arms giving him a big hug. I can still see Jason holding Jake in one arm as he typed a quick note on his computer always a great father and true professional! Many times Jason told me he firmly believed family came first in his life. It was clear to me Jason was supremely devoted to both of you.
Christine and Jake, I want you to know because of the strength of Jason's moral fiber he would be one of a handful of people I would share my foxhole. Yes, I would trust my life to Jason. There is no greater tribute I could give to Jason. Jason will always be a hero to me.

My neighbor brother, you will be missed tremendously by so many. Over the past 5 yeasts, the lessons in life I have learned from you will never be forgotten. And to think, you had no idea what an influence you were to me. I admire you and know that you were a walking testimony to God's way of life. Christine, I wish there were words to ease the pain. I adored the relationship you and Jason had and the family you created. You are a woman, that shares the same strength as Jason did. God bless to you and Jakey. With love, Donna Schwartz Sharkey
