Peg Copple Obituary

Peg Copple

Resident of Sausalito

Family and friends are saddened at the loss of Peg Copple who passed away August 25 after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a Sausalito icon and her generosity and contributions to others will be remembered by all who knew her.

Peg was born July 19, 1946 in San Jose, California. She attended Willow Glen Elementary, Edwin Markham Jr. High, and Willow Glen High class of 1964. She graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Mathematics. Post graduation, Peg taught math in primary and secondary schools.

Peg had 33 years experience as a real estate agent & broker in both Sausalito and South Lake Tahoe. In South Lake Tahoe she served as a general partner and manager of 15 private real estate partnerships. In 1986, she moved to Sausalito and embraced the community. In 1997, she opened her own independent real estate brokerage firm, Peg Copple & Associates. In 2008 she joined McGuire Real Estate. She was a consistent top producer, having established a successful business focusing on Sausalito real estate sales for the past 22 years. Peg was the foremost listing and selling agent nationwide in Sausalito and was often called as an expert witness in real estate values and transactions. Peg's intuition and good judgment lead to over 250 sales of Sausalito properties. Peg was a member of many Realtors networking groups and organizations. Among them were: the National Association of Realtors, California Association of Realtors, Marin Association of Realtors, Women's Council of Realtors, and Top Agent. She was also the Co-Chair of the Marin Association of Realtors' Commercial Investment Group.

Peg believed in giving back to the community that supported her. In addition to being a financial sponsor of many Sausalito community events, Peg was active in the community through memberships in the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce (President for 2001), the Sausalito Rotary Club, (President 2006-2007), the Sausalito Woman's Club, the Sausalito Yacht Club, the Sausalito Historical Society, and the Friends of the Sausalito Library. Having served on many Boards of Directors, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sausalito Rotary Housing Foundation and the secretary of the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation. She received the "Spirit of Marin" award, a "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Chamber of Commerce and was the 2009 Sausalito Art Festival "Volunteer of the Year." Peg also served for 9 years on the Business Advisory Committee for the City Council of the City of Sausalito. This committee created the "Imagine Sausalito" campaign to bring economic vitality and enjoyment of life to Sausalito.

The past fourteen months were enlightening and inspirational. She wrote a health journal which she sent to friends passing on insights she learned while "living with cancer." Her life was full to the final day having spent the past week with family visiting her beloved Lake Tahoe and last weekend surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoma wine country.

Peg is survived by sons Chris Cayton of Santa Cruz and Brooks Cayton of San Jose, mother Barbara B. Copple of San Jose, granddaughter Phoenix Cayton of Santa Cruz, brother Jim Copple of San Jose, sisters Cynthia Copple of Santa Cruz, Alice Copple-Tosic of Belgrade, Serbia, Jackie Copple of Menlo Park, Betsy Zimmerman of Castle Rock, Colorado, Julia Davenport of Santa Cruz, beloved aunt to fourteen nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Jack H. Copple, San Jose developer.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sausalito Art Festival Hospitality Tent, Marinship Park, 2300 Marinship Way, Sausalito, Ca 94965

I am so sorry to hear about the loss Peg. I met Peg briefly at her parent's home. I took care of her father Jack Copple while attending San Jose State University while working on my nursing degree. Dear Peg's Spirit and her family, I am greatly saddened to hear of Peg's passing on. I had a number of exchanges with her during her illness, discussing new therapy ideas. She remained an "up" person since I met her shortly after arrival in Sausalito. We both loved old Rock 'N Roll music and tried to impose our music onto as many events as possible. When I was on the City Council, she appeared many times representing a huge number of issues and was always completely professional. Peg, we will miss you. You were an integral part of Sausalito and it's unique lifestyle. Smooth sailing, Peg. Love, Sandra Bushmaker

Oh, Peg, how sorry I am to learn of your illness and passing this morning.
From our days at 3030 when I first started my business, through so many years of growth and change for us both, you were always there, insightful and supportive as I tried to figure out how to find my own way and place in Marin.

How I looked forward to and enjoyed your annual holiday parties! By far, you gave the best parties!

You, dear Peg, were a very special lady - business aside. Your work - all of it - came from your BIG HEART. That, is what will be missed most of all.

I'll see you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, my old friend. And no doubt, you'll be hosting many parties there.

Until then I shall miss you, and knowing that you're there in Sausalito, terribly.

Rest in peace, Peg, always surrounded by the love and fond memories of those you've touched so deeply.
