Stanley Niu Obituary

NIU, Stanley H.-- died July 22, 2002, after a two yearlong battle with cancer. The devoted father is survived by his wife Yolande, son Mark of Hong Kong, daughter Tina Niu Smith of Atherton, son-in-law Jeff Smith, and grandson Noah. Born in Nanking, China in 1935, Stanley later moved to Shanghai, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and eventually earned a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics at the University of Wisconsin. He went on to become an engineering professor at the University of Missouri Kansas City for 32 years, serving as Director of the Engineering program and Chairman of Civil Engineering.
But his foremost love was teaching students, and he did so with a passion, winning UMKC's Trustees' Award for Excellence in Teaching. He will be remembered by his family as a husband who put his wife before himself, a father who cheered on his children at every game, and a grandpa who made his grandson burst with laughter. Dad, thank you for blessing our lives forever!
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 26, at 10:00 a.m. at ROLLER, HAPGOOD AND TINNEY, 980 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94301. A burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.
