Marjorie LaVonne Satrang
Marjorie LaVonne Satrang, age 89, longtime resident of Mt. Iron, MN, and formerly of Louisiana, North & South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana, died Monday, July 29, 2024, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's in Duluth.
She was born March 8, 1935, in Minot, ND, the daughter of John A. and Emma R. (Schlenker) Hummel. She was a 1953 graduate of Garrison High School. In 1956 she met the love of her life, Clyde, in Pick City, while he was working on the Garrison Dam. Marjorie was united in marriage to Clyde Gerald Satrang on November 25, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison, ND.
Clyde worked construction so they left for California to work a job, and on their way, they were sent to Louisiana instead. Ten months later Cary was born. Next was Kristie-born in North Dakota, then Tom-in South Dakota. Dad worked on missile sights, bridges, dams, colleges, and buildings all over the country. When they moved to Mt. Iron in 1965, they settled there and Clyde worked everywhere, coming home every weekend. Tim was born in Virginia and completed the family with the title of mom's "baby and favorite".
Marjorie worked as a homemaker. She was an amazing cook & baker. She always made sure there was an ice cream bucket of chocolate chip cookies in the freezer. Of course, when the children realized how good frozen chocolate chip cookies were, sometimes she only found the empty bucket. She always made those cookies for our first day of school and continued that for neighbor kids and great-grandchildren. Hockey was her favorite sport. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she was very involved with her circle group. She enjoyed cooking, baking, embroidering, canning, hockey-cheering on the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, meadow larks, crocus flowers, windmills, and "the farm".
Marjorie is survived by her children: Cary Satrang of Iron, MN, Kristie Satrang of Cold Spring, MN, Tom (Jeanne) Satrang of Andover, MN, and Tim (Paula) Satrang of Mountain Iron, MN; brother: Clarence Hummel of Clarkston, WA; grandchildren: Joseph, Alexander, Cullen, and Justin; great-grandchildren: Matteo and Revan; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clyde; brothers and sisters-in-law: Alfred (Beryl) Satrang, Berdella (Roy) Clark, Lela (Laurence) Wenstad, Johnny Satrang, and Alvin Satrang.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Friday, August 16, 2024, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mt. Iron. Pastor Laura Mills Anderson will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
