Ray Loop Obituary

Ray Douglas Loop, age 79 of Harrogate, TN passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Morristown Hamblen Hospital. He was born in Claiborne County on September 15, 1939, the son of the late Harvey Loop and Hazel Loop Hammac. He believed in the Baptist faith and was a lifelong member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Ray was a member of 53 years of the Big Springs Union Masonic Lodge where he was Lodge master in 1974. He worked for Stewart Lambert on a rolling store, then many years he worked for Powell Valley Trucking Company, Richland Coal Company, Bell County Coal Corporation, Dark Ridge Fuels, Bow Valley Coal, and Eastern Mountain Coal where he worked as drill operator and a blaster. He also owned his own construction company with his own backhoe and truck. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter Linda Kay Loop, Grandson Michael "Mikey" Pendleton, Brother Johnny Loop, Brother-in-law Troy Burchett, and nephew Kenny Burchett. Survivors include his Daughters, Lois (Butch) Pendleton, Sharon Simmons and Tammy Loop Hopper, Grandchildren Christy (Josh) Pendleton Cheek, Matthew (Erin) Simmons, Megan (Michael) McCall, Hannah and Haley Hopper, and greatgrandson Hudson Patrick McCall, Sister Sissy Burchett, Brother Roy R. (Cathy) Loop, and a host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Green Hills Funeral Home. Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stewart Fultz presiding, full Masonic services will be held. Music will be provided by the Mt. Gilead Church Singers. Interment will follow in the Forge Ridge Cemetery. I moved away many years ago but I knew Ray when I lived in that area. What I remember most about him was his infectious smile. He never met a stranger and was always a pleasure to talk with. He will be remembered and missed.
