Alan Rutner Obituary

Alan C. Rutner
Alan Croel Rutner, 82, of Cromwell, son of Marcus and Lillian Rutner, and husband of Suzanne Cannata Rutner, died on Friday, September 10, 2021.
Alan grew up in the Bronx, New York and attended PS 80 Elementary School and the Bronx High School of Science. He earned his Bachelors degree at City College of New York and continued on at Rutgers University where he earned his Masters degree and PH.D in Plant Biochemistry. He received his M.D. degree at New York University School of Medicine in Internal Medicine.
At New York University School of Medicine, he taught Biochemistry and was proud to work with the teaching faculty in Biochemistry with Dr Severo Ochoa, Nobel laureate. He was also an assistant professor of Biochemistry at the University of Alabama School of Medicine where he helped develop the Family Practice model of general medicine. Most recently Alan was in solo practice as an Internist in Cromwell, CT and retired after more than twenty years in practice.
Alan leaves his wife, Suzanne and his children Amy Gayeski, Tracy Gayeski, Rebecca Donnelly, Andrew Rutner and Kenneth Rutner and grandchildren Alejandro, Tarren, Akeyan, Luca, Ezra and Sawyer.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday morning, September 15th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell, where masks are required. Burial will follow in the family plot in Saint Sebastian's Cemetery in Middlefield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan's memory may be made to New York University School of Medicine, c/o David Koehler, Department Vice President of Principal Gifts, 25 West 4th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10012 or the Cromwell Ambulance Division, P.O.
