LANDSBERG, DAVID M. David Michael Landsberg, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Higganum on Thursday, May 5, 2016. He leaves his beloved wife of 43 years, Jackie, daughter Jennifer, son Dan, daughter-in-law Pam, son-in-law Andy, grandchildren Julia and Ryan, his dear friends, various chickens, and a fantastic Border Collie, Buddy. Jackie and Dave spent most evenings wandering the gardens of their 1720 home with a glass of wine in hand. He shared a love of sports with his son Dan and they took yearly trips to see their San Francisco teams, usually lose. He spent countless hours discussing politics with his beloved daughter Jen. He loved opera, jazz, and Willie Nelson. He loved Europe, traveling with Jackie, and spent a month last year in Costa Rica basking in the sun. He refused to accept his diagnosis - he was scheduling playing in bridge tournaments when he was too weak to even walk. When he was asked why he was so upbeat after being given his diagnosis, he said “I don’t sweat the big stuff.”At the age of 16, he took his mother’s car, without her permission, and drove with friends to Selma, Alabama to march with Martin Luther King, Jr. In a fit of whimsy in his 40s, he started a hydroponic greenhouse business and country store and grew the best tasting most expensive tomatoes on his hundred acre farm in upstate NY. Even though he had no background in construction, when Jackie needed a barn for her horse, he drew a plan, bought the lumber, and enlisted his son and a few friends to help him build the barn – slightly crooked but sound. He worked at Wesleyan University and the Community Health Center - each place loved and cherished by him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 4:00 pm at the Wesleyan Memorial Chapel on 221 High Street, Middletown, CT. Calling hours are Friday, May 13th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
