MARIA STAGON Obituary

Maria (Tine) Stagon, 97, beloved wife of the late Michael A. Stagon passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 after a rich and full life. She was born on September 19, 1919, a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Santina (Carta) Tine. Maria was predeceased by her son Michael P. Stagon and her brothers Frank, Salvatore, Anthony, Theodore and Joseph Jr. She is survived by her daughter Sandra S. Pasculano and her sister Helen T. Perrone. Maria worked for International Silver Co. in Meriden where she met her husband. After marrying she left to raise a family. She also worked at Travelers Insurance and left there to work beside her husband and son in the family business, the Big A Driving School and continued there until her retirement. Maria was a life long parishioner of St. Sebastian Church and volunteered her time in the Parish Office and on the Funeral Bereavement Committee. Her family was the center of her life and she loved the many get togethers with her siblings and all her nieces and nephews. Maria loved sports and played on the Garibaldi 's Women's Basketball team known as the Garry's Girls in the 1930's and a picture of the team is displayed in the Middletown Sports Hall of Fame. She was also an avid duckpin bowler and also played softball. She was a UCONN season ticket holder for women's basketball and men's football. She attended games well into her 90's. Maria will be deeply missed by her family and friends and anyone whose lives were made better by her genuine caring and giving ways. The family would like to thank Dr. Rubin Hirsch and also her caregivers at Apple Rehabilitation in Middletown for their care and support. Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, July, 19, 2017 at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 So. Main St., Middletown, CT from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Sebastian Church, 155 Washington St., Middletown, CT. Sandra, my Mom, Florence Root, loved your Mom. She was so very sweet. When I would go into Apple, she would be in the central area and I would hold her hand. I'm so sorry for your loss. We are unable to go to the wake or funeral, but our thoughts and love will be with you and your family.

So many wonderful stories to remember about Aunt Mary. Her love of legion baseball and her frequent pleas to the umps to put their glasses on. Making Italian cookies at Christmas and for weddings. Her devotion to the Yankees. Her abundant love for her nieces and nephews. We all loved her so very much. She will be greatly missed.
