Roger Hersey Obituary

Roger Guy Hersey, 64 of Middlefield, left suffering and pain behind and entered into a peaceful heavenly slumber on May 12, 2013 at Middlesex Hospital after a brief stay in hospice. Roger battled Multiple Myeloma, a form of bone cancer, for four years.
Roger leaves behind his wife, soul mate and best friend Nancy (Greco) Hersey. He also leaves 5 children, Lori Hersey and her husband Tom of Berkeley, CA, Matthew Hersey of Newington, CT, Jodie Marino of Middlefield, Jeanine Marino and her fiancée Larry Sekol of Middlefield, and Amy (Hersey) Dow and her husband Brian of Middlefield. He leaves 4 grandchildren Kyle, Owen, Julia, and Aaron. His daughter Amy is expecting his newest grandson in June. Roger also leaves his sister Sally Cassarino of San Marcos, CA. He is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Dorothy Hersey of Hartford, CT.
Roger worked for the State of CT as facilities manager in the judicial department for 19 years. He then followed his passion for classic cars and trucks by founding Auto Body Specialties, Inc. in Middlefield, CT together with his wife.
Roger's greatest love in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He could always be found on the floor coloring, playing with matchbox cars, making box houses, sledding, and giving tractor rides. His family's cottage in Old Lyme, CT and family farm house in NH were special places to him. Roger loved the Beach Boys and always had their music on in his truck, singing down the highways.
Roger's family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Middlesex Hospital, CT Oncology Group, and Middlesex Family Practice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18 at the Middlefield Federated Church on Main Street in Middlefield at 2:00pm. Friends and family are welcome. Roger's family is requesting that everyone wear something blue in his honor. Classic car owners are encouraged to drive them on Saturday. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.

Nancy and family, my deepest sympathy to all of you at this time of sorrow. We had the pleasure of seeing Roger last summer when he traveled to the farm in NH with Lori, Tom and children. With all that he was enduring at that time he remained full of life and love. He will forever hold a memory in our hearts. May the Lord bless all of you at this time and keep you well. Love, Mary Ann Hersey

Our deepest condolences to Roger's family from your transplanted Kansas cousins. So many memories of Thanksgiving celebrations at Una and Latham's house, but most of all the happy times at our cottages at Hawk's Nest Beach.

Nancy, we were both so sorry to hear of Roger's passing. We both worked with him at Judicial for many years. You and Roger actually came to our house for dinner once, along with others of the Facilities' crew. That was a long time ago, and now seems like yesterday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

My sincere condolences, I was really sad to hear about Roger's passing. I have many fond memories of playing with him and my cousins as a child when we spent holidays together, at the beach in Old Lyme, and at our grandfather's farm in New Hampshire.

Sally has many good memories of her brother Roger ... growing up together in Hartford, spending time at our Dad's farm house in New Hampshire, and especially of being at our family cottage in Old Lyme. Although I cannot travel to CT, my thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.
