Gregory Artkop Obituary

GREGORY THADDEUS ARTKOP Gregory Thaddeus Artkop passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Zygmont and Irene Artkop, Greg led a life full of dedication, love, and jokes. Greg married Elisabeth Ann Vokes on May 30, 1964. Together, Greg and Ann raised three children: Gregory Stephen, Marjorie Elizabeth, and Jacqueline Marie. He was a proud graduate of the University of Detroit, where he worked diligently during the day at Ford Motor Company while studying at night to earn his degree in Business Management. In 1978, Greg moved his family to Texas, where he continued to build a life centered around family and community. At the age of 60, Greg made a significant career change and became a teacher. Earning his master's degree in education was the pinnacle of his career, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and passion for education. He taught Special Ed English in Maypearl ISD until he retired. Greg was known for his warm personality and never met a stranger. He loved to play golf, enjoyed model trains, and always had his nose in a book. Since 1982, he was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waxahachie, serving as a Eucharistic minister and reader. He also took communion to the homebound, taught special ed CCD, and served as a sponsor for youth group retreats. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Elizabeth Ann Jackson, and his brother Jan Stanley Artkop. Greg's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, his children, and his extended family and friends. He leaves behind a grieving family, including his six grandchildren: Kaley, Kyle, Kerry, Simon, Carrie, and Lindsey, his daughter-in-law Jennifer, and sons-in-law Daren and Dwayne. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family is holding a viewing on Thursday, May 8, from 6-8 pm at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9, at 2 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ebenezer Orphanage in Kenya, Africa, run by one of Greg's dearest friends, George Odera, at Zelle account [email protected] (George Odera, Chase Bank).
